Actually I spend way TOO much time reading here and the search functions leave a lot to be desired. I had already investigated this on the LASD side:

If the applicant is active military, duty station orders indicating assignment within California (LA County) should be provided.

Maybe we can get LAPD to sign a MOU with LASD!

So Gascon is now going to disband the Gang Unit! https://www.foxnews.com/us/los-angel...-handcore-gang

In a statement to FOX Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva called the move a "suicide pact."

"While gang members are busy driving up LA County's homicide rate, DA Gascon is now dismantling the Hardcore Gang Unit that works with local law enforcement," he said. "This is not reform, this is beginning to look more like a suicide pact."

Notwithstanding the fact that Gascon is insane, maybe this will prompt AV to release the floodgates on LTC's.....

His message was clear that everyone should apply because they are giving them out pretty freely. From the day my application was mailed to the interview day was 14 days.
Hey Dazz, what info did you provide to show you're in a high crime area? I'm wondering if working FT at a school will trump my business working with real estate agents in South Central and East LA?

Just get crime reports for the area. A crime blotter should have the info. You can also try and find news articles. Anything that shows crimes in the area. The Ring doorbell also has reported crimes. I don't know if you need the app or the doorbell for that.

I used a screen shot from crimemapping.com. I took a 12 mile rectangular radius and filtered out everything except robberies, assault with a deadly weapon, and murders for the past 90 days. Mine came out to 503 incidents.

I am not sure about your job description because I am not sure exactly what you do but I believe almost anyone can come up with a good reason if they put some thought into it. One example I did hear might work are real estate agents. They have to show houses alone to people they might not know.

Then when you apply with LASD they will also use LAPD’s background check work product of you in deciding your GMC too. (LASD will use their own GC standard to judge your GC.)
Not sure if this was what Paladin was referencing in regards to why we need to get denied by LAPD first. I had previously read this and since it did not really address my question, I questioned LASD policy. I re-read everything from Page 43 (12/18/2020) to present and this was all I found.

The "reason" sounds more like speculation to me and even if it is true, why would LAPD be expending precious resources assisting LASD with LTC issuance? That makes no sense for LAPD and if the Chief was smart, he would simply sign an MOU with LASD!

I hate to speculate, but the PD denial first requirement appears to simply be a current LASD policy and is not codified in statute anywhere?

Those of you that have applied, what was the interview like?

Also, should I send in my supporting documents or do I bring them in? Looks like on the website it states to bring them in along with birth certificate, utility bill etc...

I was worried it would be like an interrogation but it was the complete opposite. In my interview, I was just asked about what I do and if I was ever arrested. That was it. Very short. My good cause had a lot of supporting documents so I am not sure if that was why but I was not asked about anything related to the application.

For the supporting docs, just take them with you. During my call, I was asked to bring my business license so there may be additional documents the interviewer wants to see. I also had an out-of-state CCW which he did not tell me to bring but I brought with me and I was asked for that also. I also made copies of the originals I took with me so that helped speed things up too.

I'll emphasize this once again. The processing will most likely be quickest if you mail your application in directly to the address listed on the LASD website. My guess is that all the CCW Unit personnel are at that address so everything eventually has to go through there. For the lazy, this is the mailing address:
