Wouldn't it be easier on both LAPD and applicants if there were some kind of optional fast lane for denials, maybe just a web page where you put in your name and push a button and get an instant denial letter PDF.
I can't see who is served by the current time consuming dance with a known outcome?I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.
The more time I spend on this forum, the more sense kcbrown makes.

Rumor mill from my LAPD contacts is that LASD is loosening CCW good cause to some degree and they encouraged me to re-apply after my last failed attempt. I'll report back on the results. I just submitted a new application last week. Whatever the results, I'll try to post some information that I hope will add to the database regarding acceptable GC.Comment

A quick update. I just received a phone call from a deputy to schedule an interview. If all goes as I hope, I will post back with results and I hope also a breakdown of what differences there were between my previous application and the current one. Fingers crossed.NRA Benefactor Life Member

CGN LASD CCWer #12!!!
CGN LASD CCWer #12!!!My Good Cause statement is number #13 in post 31 link below. (light red)
https://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/...7#post25092177 The proof I provided was 12 months of bank statements showing deposits with the majority of cash and some check deposits.
My Good Moral Character qualification is I am a den leader for Scouts, I have volunteered at my local church. I have donated to Operation Underground Railroad and they provided me with a nice thank you letter with a tax statement.
My timeline:
mid January: Attended Community Conversation with Sheriff AV.
Started getting informed and working on my CCW package took about 6 hours. Read sticky http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ghlight=advice I also use worksheet https://orangecountygunowners.com/wp...-Statement.pdf
Next day: Turned in my CCW package with all documents.
A couple of weeks later: In person interview, per deputy my GC & GMC qualifies me for a CCW pending Livescan and Shooting Proficiency.
Same day: Live Scan done.
About a week later: Submitted shooting proficiency cert. (must be signed)
A couple of weeks later: Pick up my License to carry concealed pistol. (bring your documents and you will have your picture taken.)
My thoughts IT IS A GREAT TIME TO APPLY FOR A CCW if you are willing to take the time to get informed and put in the work and jump through the hoops required. I strongly recommend everyone with Yellow or light red GC apply.Comment

If you haven’t already be sure to read this entire thread on applying especially my first 3 posts and my post regarding LAPD
To all: these are more CGNers who are going it alone. More and more CGNers keep applying and getting issued without needing my help, which is the way we want it. There are now a dozen I’ve numbered. I think it’s obvious AV readily issues for Dark Red and Light Red and now it appears for Yellow too. I’m sure the applicants I’ve shepherd are just the tip of the iceberg compared to all LASD applicants. As long as you’re not too specific regarding details about yourself or your application you’re probably safe posting on your own, especially if AV takes LASD to some level of Green this summer.Last edited by Paladin; 02-27-2021, 7:30 AM.Comment

IIRC since LASD does not routinely patrol the City of LA they won’t know of low level drama that won’t appear on a routine background check, only LAPD would. We’re talking about things that don’t end up reported, much less getting charged. LASD wants LAPD to throughly investigate you and judge your GMC. Then when you apply with LASD they will also use LAPD’s background check work product of you in deciding your GMC too. (LASD will use their own GC standard to judge your GC.)Last edited by Paladin; 03-31-2021, 9:16 PM.Comment

This is extremely encouraging to read and I am really happy for you LA county folks. Each and every legal gun owner should be able to carry without restriction, but short of that... well short of that in most cases... it's great to see steps in the right direction.Buy made in USA whenever possible.Comment

I was approaching the LAPD application like just a formality to get over with, and was just going in with the bare minimum, so I can get that denial letter and begin the LASD process.
Then thanks to reading this reminder the night before my LAPD interview, I decided to put in as much documentation as I would with LASD. Wrote a detailed GC statement, had character reference letters, even included a printout of the latest LAPD crime stats for my area (I think it's great that LAPD publishes them on a regular basis and are easily accessible on their site).
I'm glad I came better prepared for the interview this morning, and used it like a rehearsal for when I apply with LASD. The 2 LAPD detectives were very polite, and the lead detective I spoke to on the phone when making the appointment, carefully read and went over all the information I submitted.
Interview was about 15-20 minutes, and she said they have 90 days to deny or approve, and if denied, I then have 60 days to apply with LASD. She said she hoped to complete the background and have a decision as soon as possible before 90 days (I think it was her way of indicating that she knows there's a demand right now to apply to LASD and that LAPD is trying their best to do their part in this process of approval/denial).
FYI, regarding the DOJ form that LAPD wants you to bring to the interview: I didn't think I was supposed to fill out Section 7 (Pages 9 and 10), where it asks for your personal info and what incidents you've been involved in, and your GC, because it says "Investigator's Interview Notes"...I assumed the detective would be the one filling that out, but she asked me to fill them out when she saw the pages were blank, and politely waited for me to do that, to continue the interview. Luckily, I had printed out my GC statement on a separate page that I could turn in, so I didn't have to rewrite it on the form (there's not a lot of space on there anyway).
Btw, I made this appointment back in October, so if folks intend to apply, you should do so ASAP, since they are booked up for months.

Guymenton, good on you for doing that. Absolutely, treat the LAPD process just as seriously as the LASD. It is a rehearsal, so consider yourself lucky to have it, even though it might be annoying to have extra steps and delay. And who knows, they might issue. It's not an absolutely guaranteed no and it sounds like they are taking the application seriously. You also never know when a policy change might occur there.
One big point in this is to treat every step in the process seriously, from your initial application, to how you drive in to the parking lot for your LASD interview. They are looking for the right kind of person, who pays attention to doing things right at every step."Weakness is provocative."

Has anybody ever been approved by LAPD? Or is it always an automatic denial?sigpicComment

Chief Moore has issued at least two other CCW permits, according to his declaration. They were given to brothers who operate a law enforcement weapons business and routinely transport machine guns and other firearms unavailable to the general public.
Moore said he placed restrictions on those permits so the men would not be allowed to carry a gun for protection unless they were transporting weapons.
I would go in treating the process as if it's the real thing, despite the reality that the chance is very remote. And the permits the chief issued, in that article, are terribly restricted. Come on, these guys are machine gun dealers, and the chief is treating them like they can't be trusted to carry a gun?
I'm assuming that the two brothers mentioned as MG dealers are from the interesting Botach family, with its complicated relationship with arms contracting.Last edited by CCWFacts; 02-16-2021, 4:08 PM."Weakness is provocative."
