I had my interview February 1 and got my SSD (Sac County) email approval yesterday, so less than three weeks. On to Livescan next week.

Took the CCW course at Cordova Shooting Center, $200. It was excellent. As one not well experienced with handguns but very comfortable with rifles and shotguns, I learned a lot and came out feeling much more confident. I would recommend the course even for those not interested in CCW but just needing some education about handgun use, cleaning, range work, legal aspects etc.

How about some reviews in the "Permit/License To Carry Training Classes & Experiences" forum.

They can really be helpful for those trying to decide what classes are best for them...

Now the wait and search for a CCW class begins. Anyone have experience with the California Security Training Academy? It's a mixed guard/CCW class, but the price is right at 150 with a free box of 9mm to qualify with...
I've been through their course twice. CSTA is a "cooperate and graduate" course. The folks who used to run it are retired and the new folks are just grinding it out. You will pay little and you will learn little. But, unless you are a complete Doofuss, you will get the cert.

I've not seen anyone get the included box of ammo or the range fees, but I have seen clients demand reimbursement . Maybe that's changed.

I have seen them DQ a couple of people, but those folks shouldn't have been out alone.

If you are new at this, check LFI or the Sacramento Gun Club. You will get far better instruction and be happier with the experience. Buy once, cry once.

I initially wanted to take my 16 hour course with sacramento gun club, but their lack of class times didnt work with my schedule and the one class that did work was sold out.

i ended up reserving a class at the gun range off watt.

The Gun Range class was fun. My class was run by Mike Kennedy. He's a nice guy.

They canceled my weapon mod appointment. They need to get their crap together and not open appointments if they're going to cancel them.

They said that there was a glitch that made the appointments appear open.

Did mine today, i called yesterday and they said the IT guy's put the wrong info on the appointment site and that she was to busy to cancel them and if we didn't get a cancellation notice our appointment was still good.

Lucky duck. Amber said to just check the website frequently. Next time I get a mod appointment I'll hope for the best... And not call and question it in hopes they'll be too busy, lol

Three people?? Wow. That's one of the most irritating parts about the whole system. These people who make appointments then don't show up for them. I was told at SSD that it happens all the time. The department has put a lot of effort into making things run as smoothly as they can. Some great folks working there.

If you can't make it, cancel it. Unless I became incredibly sick at the moment I'm leaving the house or dead, I make my appointments.

I've also seen folks in the very short time I'm sitting there, unprepared. This is a serious project your undertaking. Make sure you check , double check, triple check to make sure your excrement is in order.
