Question for you orange county "1st timers" that are applying...is there any type of psyche eval that's required to initially obtain your permit? (I wouldn't think so for renewals, so this is for the initial application process) If so, what's the cost of that if you don't mind me asking? Thanks.

I applied on a Saturday and they emailed me back on a Monday (presumably when they re-opened). I would try applying again.

Thanks for the tip. I also took @Albs advice and contacted OCSD. They showed no record of my request and had me submit an "Interview Request" via email at the same address you listed.

I believe the cost is to be no more than $150, paid by the applicant.

Thanks for all of your suggestions and comments. I submitted my appointment request and received confirmation all in the same day! My appointment is set for 8/17/2016 at 9AM.

Will update my timeline as I progress through the process.

Expect them to move it up from August. I would touch base again in about 60 days and ask if there have been any cancellations - you might get shoehorned into an empty slot that is much sooner.

No psych eval for me. I saw a post a while back that someone had to but I don't remember the circumstances.

It's not required as a matter of routine unless they see something on your app or during your interview that makes them think you need one. We've only heard of a handful of people getting them.

Renewal Process

I have to start My renewal process in a few months. Wanted to know whats acceptable for Cause since self defense is no longer acceptable. Also, Has anyone tries the classes over at ON Target? Thanks.

Just interviewed and was a very pleasant experience. Go pee before arriving they plainly state no public restrooms, lol.
Pretty much go to the 4th floor paperwork is collected, picture and signature completed. Wait to be called for interview. Mine was very pleasant and just went over the paperwork verifying with you that it is correct. Then
she pulls up your info in the computer... Prints out a list of all your guns and verifies serials of the ones you chose to carry, checks dmv, even gets a google map printout of your home. I expected to get drilled but all questions were professional and appropriate. If you have a badge for work may want to copy it, they asked for mine not sure why. We chatted as the officer verified my info, then gave me additional instructions for livescan. It was nice that things were a bit casual and not completely sterile like a courtroom. Parking was plentiful and did have to pay 6.00. just have originals and copies of all your paperwork it helps them out and improves the flow when you have everything prepared, it is also polite and responsible to come prepared

Just received the email stating I have cleared the CCW process. Went pretty smooth from when I originally applied to now. I'm an active duty Marine with a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmentalized Information Security Clearance which I believe helped and sped up the process. At my initial interview, I stated to the investigating officer that I would be leaving the state for a few months of training right after the new year so he had a deputy sheriff verify my residence before I left. During my interview, the investigator advised me to complete the live scan and weapon training since he was almost certain my package would be approved based on my GC statement and my background. Below is a timeline.
7/18/15 - Initial email sent stating interest in CCW permit.
7/20/15 - Email received for initial appointment set on 12/02/15.
7/20/15 - Email sent to change appointment for later date in December due to military deployment.
12/17/15 - Initial interview (less than 1 hour).
12/17/15 - Live scan complete.
12/29/15 - Weapon training complete and certificate sent to investigator.
3/31/16 - Email received for finalization appointment for 4/7/16
3/31/16 - Email sent to change appointment for later date in May due to military training.
5/24/16 - Final interview set.

Not to take away from what you do, but it doesn't appear to have played a role in speeding up your time frame. Your time frame is consistent with everyone else's, even when with factoring in being gone on training. I only mention this so others can have an idea on how long things are taking. The important thing is that you got your permit. Congrats!
