Also, he said I can take an 8 hour course instead of the 16 hour course because of my military experience, but all I see on the list are 16 hour courses. Is there even such thing as an 8 hour CCW class?

Check out Greg Block if you don't care about training down range, his course focuses on the legal aspect and teaches you how to stay out of jail.

You meet twice and the whole course only takes 2-3 hours. Meet once in the classroom for 1-2 hours, qualify your firearms and meet second time for less than 30 minutes.

Do the online one - it's quick and very convenient, covers everything you need for your permit application.

I sent my CZ P-01 to CGW for pro package. Is this going to preclude me from listing it on my CCW license?

            CCW pick up on 3/21/2016

My Glock! It took nearly one year to get my permit.

I've never heard of them inspecting firearms. AFAIK it's irrelevant. They are merely listed with their serial number on your app and permit, and you have to qualify at a range with it. Nobody is looking at what you've done to change it.

That said, consider not using that type of modified firearm for SD. Should you have to actually use it the lawyers will have a hay-day with you - "He's a gun toting, gun fanatic, itchy trigger finger type." Plus you're likely to lose it permanently in that scenario. Most carriers are using something plain and simple, something sacrificial - glock, M&P, XD, etc.

              Just some things to consider.

Wow, that's discouraging. Has this happened? Can you provide examples of this happening?

OCSD doesn't inspect firearms, but your instructor does, at least mine did.

When I took my class, as they write down the serial number they also inspected the firearms and checked the trigger pull. There was about 3 people who weren't able to qualify their firearm because of their trigger modification. Yes, they openly admitted to it and sure you can be dishonest, but if they were to prove you wrong... well that's another story.

I'm a better safe than sorry guy by nature, but I'm also an attorney.

Any modifications to enhance reliability and accuracy can be explained as such. To be sure, I don't want to be the test case, but I do try cases, and it's not difficult to get a jury to weed through crap like that, particularly if it's a good shoot against a bad guy. If you're CCW, you're already a gun toting fanatic, right?

The "test subject" of what? Your delusions of how the justice system works? You don't have to be the test case...all you have to do is dig up one example, but you can't.

You made a definitive statement that,
Should you have to actually use it the lawyers will have a hay-day with you - "He's a gun toting, gun fanatic, itchy trigger finger type.
But you have not one example to substantiate this position.

You are not alone...even with the resources at his disposal, the venerable Masaad Ayoob can't document it, and he's tried for decades.

But if you are going to begin to worry about the overzealous, gun-hating cop and the demon prosecutor along with the ambulance chasing tort attorney, you may as well stay home and melt your guns down on the stovetop.

Carry whatever gun you have that has your absolute confidence for whatever reason. You must know it will go bang every time and accurately deliver a killing blow. But if you hesitate because of what might happen in a court in six months, there is a very good chance you will be dead and won't have to worry about the lawyers.

                        Best.

That's always been my thought. If better sites, a better trigger and other such modifications help me hit what I'm aiming at, it's for the better.

                            Update on My Interview

Well, I had my interview today. I had 4 different reasons included on my good cause and the deputy that I spoke with said I have a chance. He was a bit critical of my reasons and nitpicked them, but I think I'll be okay. He told me to move forward with the livescan.

                              I agree with you.

If I was in a life or death situation I would do whatever it takes to protect myself.

I train often with my firearm and am confident if I have to use it.

OCSD restrictions are vague, but I rather not take that risk.

So, is there a "safe" trigger pull they are looking for or a benchmark like 4 or 4.5 that would be considered "safe" to sign off on?
