"I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery."

Back in the day OCSD used to measure trigger pull and they required a minimum of four pounds. Nowadays they leave the inspection up to your instructors and as mentioned, some (most) don't even look at your guns. If you're really concerned about it, go with an instructor that doesn't check your guns. They're the norm, rather than the exception.Sent from Free AmericaComment

Carry whatever gun you have that has your absolute confidence for whatever reason. You must know it will go bang every time and accurately deliver a killing blow. But if you hesitate because of what might happen in a court in six months, there is a very good chance you will be dead and won't have to worry about the lawyers.

Thanks for the input Guys. I just don't want to spend a ton of money on a gun that won't qualify. I am sure my CZ P-01 will be awesome when David at CGW gets through with it but this is the gun I want to carry. I am considering telling him where I want the trigger pull set but I'm not sure where it should be yet.Comment

Sent another email on 3/16 and the lady who's been helping/responding said she was able to get DOJ to fax the results to her. She asked for my training cert which I scanned and emailed to her and I have a pickup appointment on Monday!Comment

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but is there a thread here on all the information I need to apply for a CCW in general. I live in Orange County as well.
Like what are the requirements and stuff like that. I just purchased a gun, awaiting my 10-day period. So I would like to eventually apply for one, once I have some experience.
27 pages is a ton to read lol
Most instructions are on the OCSD website
I'm not going to tell you how to write your good cause statement, but self defense alone doesn't work as of right now so you need to articulate why you are at increased risk and why you need to carry a gun because of those risks. OCSD policy 218 describes the good cause requirement and is on the OCSD website.
Your interview will consist of you turning in your application to OCSD staff at the professional standards division lobby. You will be photographed and a thumb print will be taken. The interview was a review of each question on the application and then I signed confirming my answers, anything on there that is marked yes, they will want an explanation. The interview was somewhat quick, I signed everything and was given a sheet of paper with instructions to get fingerprints done, so you download the fingerprint form from the OCSD website and take it to a livescan business or police dept that does it, most community colleges do it at their PDs.
I did my livescan at a private facility and it cost a little over $100
There is also a residence check done after the interview where a deputy in an unmarked car visits your residence and possibly talks to neighbors, and they don't necessarily say why, only ask if you live there.
Then I waited for a little over 3 months and finally got a call that my background was done and my packet containing my application and completed background info was being sent to the Lieutenant for approval. If you are conditionally approved you will recieve an email from the CCW unit with a PDF letter attached and instructions to get training done at an OCSD approved facility, and a list is provided. Most run from 175-200 dollars and take two days to complete, you also have to buy ammo for your weapon(s) you are qualifying and in my case I brought 100 rounds each and it was enough, but some places do more shooting than others and you may need more ammo.
After training, you are issued a certificate of completion by the trainer. Fax or email a scan of it to the CCW unit with your serial numbers on it, and after I did this I waited another ... week or so and then I received a final pick up date, I think it's called a final interview, but it's really just going down and picking up your card which is like a drivers license in appearance with your photo, thumbprint on the back, weapons and their serial numbers, so unlike some other counties we can easily fit the permit in our wallets. It costs about $100 for the permit that you must pay to OCSD when you pick it up. You are then to go eat nachos.
One last thing about your gun(s) that you will use for the OC permit, they have a policy about not modifying the weapon, it has to be stock in terms of trigger, and removing of safety devices like loaded chamber indicator or the safety etc.
Good luckLast edited by GregsCCW; 03-27-2016, 2:09 PM.sigpicComment
