      Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
You'll hear sheriffs say they're just following the law, the courts say they have to follow the law which requires GC. Or they'll say the courts' said they have to ask for GC, or that they do not have to accept SD as GC.

Those are all true BUT the sheriffs use those statements to make it seem like the courts or law says that they CANNOT accept SD as GC. That is FALSE. After the Peruta loss (as it stands now), and state law, sheriffs & chief CAN accept SD as GC and issue CCWs.

The antis are all hooting and hollering that Sac and OC are "handing out CCWs like candy" because each has issued almost 10,000 CCWs. Well, IIRC, OC has a pop of 3M. 1/4th of that is 750k who are <18, so that's 2.25M left. If just OC issued at the national average (6.06%), just OC should have issued 136,350 CCWs!

Add in Sac (1.5M pop), and that would add another ~65,000 CCWers. So, with just those 2 counties issuing at the average rate for the USA, we'd have 200,000 CCWers.

Instead our entire state has only issued ~80,000 CCW.

          Hi All,

Late to the party, but this forum has helped with the learning curve. Applied for a CCW w/ OCSD. I'll update my timeline as things progress, but feeling good as I had a local trainer review my GC and indicated it looked very good.

          So far:
          - 8/22/16: Request interview
          - 8/23/16: OCSD confirms interview [2/28/17]

So I have the app completed, including GC statement. Going to do the LiveScan now and try to get ahead of things (relatively!).

I also recently took the training and sent in apps for UT and AZ.

You have the links others have provided, but answering the question, if you haven't been in any trouble, OCSD wants to renew you. Second, it's not hard, but do pay a little attention to your good cause statements. Lastly get the renewal paperwork in early say around 120 days. Might as well include the renewal training at that time, don't wait for them to tell you to take it, make it easy on them. Expect you wont get your new card until the week you are set to expire.

                        Congrats Underdog.

Question: what's the 8/10 submission? Is that an OCSD notification that your app was submitted to the Lt. for approval?

I'm in the same boat as a couple of others around here. I LiveScanned 7 days after you and have heard crickets.

I've been emailing them every 2-3 weeks on the status. It happened on 8/10 that they replied the file has been submitted for final approval. If I didn't inquire, I never would have known.

                            Timeline update

I've avoided contacting them so far for fear of being that guy. But I called them this afternoon.

A gentleman answered immediately and said "CCW unit" or something like that. I asked if I could get an update on my application. He asked for my name and quickly provided a status: GC approved, waiting on LiveScan.

I asked what he's seeing with the DOJ response turnaround. He advised about 16 wks.

I finished by saying I never received the conditional approval email, and does that matter. He repeated my status, suggesting that it doesn't matter.

                            I'm 16 wks and 2 days..

My wife and I had our interviews at the same time in June, and she got her conditional approval email this morning. Still waiting on mine. OCSD said that mine is still waiting for GC approval and that the applications aren't processed in any order. We are average Joes and had somewhat similar GCs so hoping for the best. It was a sigh of relief that she got hers after what I've been reading in here about speculation that OCSD is really tightening the GC.

Bases on all the feedback of late I'm not seeing any cause to think they have changed good cause requirement. It's the same as it has been since post-peruta decision.

Write up a good cause statement for your app or renewal and get your permit!
