    I need a LIFE!!

Since we're bragging on our children, here's a pic of my daughter, who went Distinguished Expert, Light Rifle, one day before her 10th birthday. She also went D.E. in pistol just before she turned 15.

She had a very good coach.

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

      Hey, BB,

Send some pics of your daughter, short bio, and her accomplishments to CRPA. They are really big in promoting youth shooting.

      Good for you, young lady!

Well.... she did get a write-up in the NRA rag, back when she went D.E.

        She was 10 then, she's 26 now.

          Is she still shooting?

Casually, which is too bad because she'd school the fellows around here.

But - getting her into the shooting sports at an early age (8) was instrumental in her developing into a responsible adult. It taught her discipline and responsibility early on, as well as developed her ability to focus on long term goals. Characteristics that will stay with her through life, long after I'm gone.

Here are some pictures, including one of the 44-40 Marlin lever gun I bought at the same auction to keep with the spirit of this discussion.

Don't see any scratches, looks like it wasn't fired. Heavy gun, even with the short barrel. Like the way the ejector kicks out and then retracts when fully open.

                  Best Regards,
                  -Frank

Let me know though - it looked there might have been some scratches on the right side, between the cylinder and the grip. Not enough to stop me, though! Ahh well - I would rather have one in another caliber anyway. ;-)

Great score there, Pismire! I hope to have a Schofield one of these days.

With various other matters and the holidays, I won't get to pickup my Ruger until the 28th.

                      Nice score, sir!

I am curious as to the marks on the rifle's receiver and lever. Is that case color, or...? The furniture on it is very nice looking! What caliber is it?

That's a wonderful old revolver. it looks like it's in great condition.

The rifle is a Marlin 1894 in 44-40. The receiver is color case hardened. The nice looking furniture was one of the main reasons I bought it. The fact it was in 44-40 was a bit off putting since I don't have anything else in that caliber and you pretty much have to handload for it. I had already saw the 44-40 Schofield and wasn't going to bid on it if I didn't end up with the Marlin which was an earlier lot. After winning the Marlin auction I bid on the Schofield as the 44-40 bridge had already been crossed. The Marlin was made in 1994 to mark 100 years from the original, so its not that old, and the Schofield is a modern reproduction.

On a related note, MidwayUSA had some Starline 44-40 brass in stock today in case anyone else is looking for it. I've been checking around since the auction and its the first time its shown up. Nickel plated in case it matters to you.

                          Best Regards,
                          -Frank

Lord Pismire, we assume! A very hearty! congratulations to you on the occasion of your two acquistions, there. Gorgeous!

What load data will you be using to load that cartridge? I've never used gunpowder (black powder) before...

One of the four or five common loadings of .44-40 back in the 19th century is one I mimic, but using smokeless and in .44 Mag brass to launch a 205-gr molycoated lead round nose flat point @ 1100 fps from my 20", .44 Remington Magnum-chambered Browning/FN/Miroku/Winchester 1892...

Perfect load for the metal buttplate...

why yes indeed, but I'm but a lowly Viscount, and don't think the Dukes, Marquesses and Earls ever let me forget it!!

As far as reloading goes, I have some black powder and may try using it for a few rounds, Its just a bit messy for my butler to clean is all.

Actually, I have some Berrys 240 gn bullets on the way and figured I'd use some N350 for the powder. I do want to try real blackpowder as well, I will just fill it up to the bottom of the bullet plus a little. Have to get some bullets lubed for black powder before I can try that out.

                              Best Regards,

Outstanding, sir. I am also reminded of my egregious lack of decorum; please forgive the oversight. I must bone up on the use of titles among the aristocracy, for I am really only a daydreaming piker. Alas...

And in days of old I daresay my insolence may have been taken as insulting! then have been compelled to meet at dawn to face my fate using weapons chosen by the offended... so, I bow before thee and beg thy forgiveness.

And in other news!... the Vihtavouri propellants may well be the creme de la creme! Aye! at the very least, the anthracite to the black coal of the original fuel...

                                I digress.
