    Incorrect.

You could buy the firearm and move to CA.

You could have a parent/child/grandparent/grandchild who lives out of state and give it to you as a gift.

You could be in LE or other exempt category.

A LEO could have bought it and decided that they did not like it.

You could have a second residence in another state.

and I am sure that there are also other ways in which the firearm is not touched.

Who's to say you did not buy it via PPT or live in another state at the time of purchase and then move to Ca with it.

If I purchase a SSE handgun, at what exact points does it have to be single shot modified?
Let's just say I go to one of these SSE friendly dealers that are listed, I tell them what I want and need it in a SSE format. I do the paperwork, pay the money and the SN is also put on the papers. Wait ten days, then go to pick up. Do I have to physically walk out of said shop then back in to the "gunsmith" portion of the shop?
Or if the SSE is done at time of DROS, can the shop then help with fit, function test and some parts swapping at the time of pick up?
Would you still pick up the handgun if when you went to pick up it was already back in original condition(SSE parts removed).
Sorry if this was already covered. I have been searching using different terms, but I want to be real specific here as to when it needs to be SSE, or if it's one of those times where the less that you know about it the better off you are.
          Thanks

It has to be in SSE configuration at the time the DROS paperwork is initiated and must remain in that configuration until you pick it up. Once you have signed off and pistol has been taken off the books, you are free to put it back to "normal" configuration.

In my experience, the shop that performs the SSE would be more than happy to put it back into normal configuration for you at the time of pickup, as they would want their SSE parts back.

You have to take possession of the gun. Then you can ask them to replace the parts for you.

Is it Felony to convert it back to original configuration?

Hi Folks, quick question here, I'm from California and I would like to purchase XDM 9mm Competition Series. I already talk to a dealer and they will SSE and trade the magz.

Question #1. When I received my gun ( SSE configured ) can I put back the original barrel? Someone told me I can not because that is felony. Is it true?

Question #2. When gun is configured to SSE, would that void the manufacturer's warantee?

Question #3. XDM 9mm Black Competition Series - SSE configured - Total amount $755 plus TAX and back ground check fee. (For $755 the dealer will take back the SSE barrel and will put the original barrel. Is the price fair enough? )

Thank you for your replies gentleman

#1, yes, no, no. Only a felony if the barrel is threaded, as that makes it an Assault Pistol in CA.

#2, no, they have no way of knowing it was made into SSE. Unless you had to machine it to get it into SSE, then it would be voided.

#3, couldn't tell you, but it sounds fair. Fair is really subjective to how much your willing to pay.

Just dropping in to let you guys know that I am back from my vacation and will be doing single shot pistols again.

I figure by now there are so many FFL's in California that are doing them that there is much less need for me to do them. Which is great for me as I really started my business with some other things in mind and when I started doing the single shot pistols they just got out of control. At this point I am happy to help out where I can.
