I called to make an appt on feb 20'th'ish.... interview on Apr 23, got a phone call june 10th to arrange training/qual for Aug 10th..... rumor has it, I will wait another 2 to 3 weeks to pick up card..... roughly six months start to finish....

Yes I heard that too. Wishing Sarah nothing but the best in her future endeavors whatever they might be.

Anyone thinking about applying in San Bernardino should get off the stick and get the process started. San Bernardino is about as close to Shall issue as you will find in CA. They want more than personal defense as a JC but it seems a sentence or too will do in most cases. Not being a disqualified person and residency seems to be their biggest concerns.

As has been mentioned to me by several deputies, and was told to my son during an interview with a Sheriff Dept Capt.... the San Bernardino County Sheriff Dept are friends of the citizens!
The dept as a matter of practice encourage and support law abiding citizens being armed!! They know that we are not the enemy but their friends!
Knowing this is how they feel and operate makes me feel like they are on my team!!

My record is not spotless and yet they have approved me. IMHO the SBCS is no. 1 but then again I am biased. Its a huge county and we need more good guys than bad guys ready and willing to defend our peaceful way of life.

the shot out section under the 8 is with the Shield.....
all the out-lie'ers are the SD9VE..... much more difficult to shoot than the Shield!!!

Ok It's been a while but...

THE INTERVIEW

While they are running your weapons and pulling your record they give you about a four page questionnaire to answer covering all kinds of things including interactions with LEO's, drug use, Physical violence, restraining orders etc.

Be very honest because they have a lot of info in their system.

After you finish the questionnaire they will ask you questions about your answers and things that show up in their system.

Remain calm and professional and answer honestly.
Remember as long as you are not a hot head or disqualified and can meet their residence requirements you should be OK.
I believe more people are disqualified for residency than any other reason.

Most interviews are about 20 minutes start to finish. You spend more time waiting for Livescan than you do in the actual interview.

If your paperwork is complete (most delays have to do with incomplete or inadequate paperwork) and you make it thru the interview they walk you over to Livescan. It tales I think about 3 -4 weeks for them to get everything back from Livescan because apparently one of the background reports has to come to them by snail mail.

While you are waiting they usually will do your residency check and their own background check (don't know what that means). After the interview is also when they send the letter to your employer.

Typically somewhere around 3 to 4 weeks after the interview they will call and tell you that you have passed the background check and schedule your range/class date.

When I called the other day, the lady on the phone told me that one of the changes with their revised (5/2014) requirements, you are not allowed/required to bring your 3 handguns for ccw during your interview date.

not sure of the dims... it is a standard B27 target... about 99 cents at most gun stores....

so draw a line thru the middle... and stay inside the top half of the 7 ring and you are good to go....

My interview was not even really an interview. I stood at the counter there and we casually chatted as she went through my paperwork. Along the way she just verified some of my info re-asking some of the same questions from the forms. Pretty cake really. It's not like some interrogation. It's more low key than even a typical job interview IMO.
