Yeah they give you a choice but different dates. If you want to get in ASAP then you kinda take what you can get, especially with how many people are doing this now.

If it is that week, when they call you can always tell them you will be on vacation that week and she will give you another option that suits your schedule.

How long does the AV range day last?

          Depends on the class.

Factors? How much Q&A (how quickly do you get out to the range)
How many people need to shoot make-up rounds.

The way it is structured is that whether people are shooting one, two, or three guns the time for each round is the same (unless nobody is shooting 3).
First round of fire, those shooting 3 shoot, 2nd round of fire adds those shooting 2, and 3rd round of fire everyone shoots.
There are no target changes, volunteers from AVGC are there assisting and watching the line and counting hits.

With briefing, shooting, and debrief, this could possibly be as quick as 60 minutes? Time seems to go pretty quickly. That's if everyone gets 8/10 in the target area for all 3 guns, and there's no issues with anyone needing to be excused.

Those who missed more than 2 then shoot their makeup rounds, so there is the possibility that the entire group could be held up for one person who ultimately needs to shoot 90 rounds if they only get 7/10 on all 3 guns.
The way the line works, one person shooting is not much faster than the entire group.

So figure that you COULD be out as early as 13:00 if everything goes perfectly and there aren't a lot of questions allowing an early lunch.
We had 21 in our class and were there until around 16:00.

Take a decent lunch... water, sodas, and some candy bars are available in the classroom for a small donation. Dress in layers if it's a cold morning.

You'll enjoy the class, and the instructor is a great guy. I would say he really knows his stuff, but that goes without saying because he was responsible for actually developing the SBSD CCW training material.

Curious has the distance and size of target been discussed? I know i'm good to go with my M&P fullsize, but my Shield is brand new and im still training it to hit the target. And training isn't going well! LOL

Hi I'm new here. I spent awhile and read through this whole thread. Seems like we live in a pro-gun county. I applied for my CCW on December 4th 2015 and was given an interview date of March 24th 2016. I had my interview today with deputy Diaz. Great guy. Interview went well. Took 1 hour and the live scan took 30 minutes. I was in and out in 1.5 hours. How about that biometric camera that takes a picture of your face and the irises of your eyes? Felt like a damn sci-fi movie. I was told background will take 90-120 days. Seems like everyone on here has been getting a call for a range
Day at around day 90. Hopefully that is my case as well.

5 yards, standard man-sized (B27?) target, scoring area is roughly the triangle formed by the area just outside and below the "nipples" and top of the sternum.
Basically anything within the 8, 9, and "X" rings above center.
You're going to want to target the top-center "9" to get your group in the right area.

Successful run but with hits outside of the vertical center will get some friendly coaching... looking for the most effective shot which will take out the heart, aorta, or spine.

Shield can handle it no problem.
I only had one range session with my Glock 36 (.45acp) before I qualified with it. I'm not a crack shot, and I was nervous as hell.... I checked my pulse on the line and it was 120... friggin' guns were visibly bouncing while I was sighting in.

                  Congrats (so far).
Diaz did my residence check. Wife said that he was really cool.

Hopefully my last question, but, my dad gave me a Beretta Jetfire in January to use as my third gun. I sent in the intra-familiar registration, check was cashed Jan. 27th. I still have not received registration confirmation. Should I take that gun to class this weekend and hope it's registered, or should I say screw it and take my M9 instead and do the Jetfire in 2 years? Thanks.
