Checking for appointments every day. Wondering if this is an end of the year thing or do they always scarce and once one opens its just a mad dash to claim that spot..

The availability of appointments is ridiculous.

The soonest I could make an appointment for renewal was four days after it expired. Which isn't too bad all things considered.

Unfortunately, I work in an environment that demands my attendance and on the day of the appointment I couldn't get away on time and missed the appointment.

Now I'm stuck being unlicensed (for nearly a month now) for the foreseeable future. I emailed SSD inquiring about February opening up for appointments but never got a reply.

Since your expiration is in July 2017, target your renewal for May 2017. In the current system, appointments for each month are usually released two months prior, so you should start looking for openings in late Feb.

That maximizes your allowed window of 60 days prior and 60 days post expiration.

Of course, any changes in the system after Jan 1 could alter all this.

Rumors and alleged insider information indicate they will. Personally, I don't care what the format is, as long as it continues to be issued.
                Thanks for your input.

Pretty smooth process here in Sac. Long wait for livescan but that is the DOJ's fault. Appointments require vigilance to get. Overall I am appreciative as most of the people you see there are volunteers.

It's crazy how long Livescan takes. I work for County Government and went through Livescan twice. Both times got cleared results back within 2 hours.

Quick Question - When I submitted the paperwork for my interview I listed 3 weapons. While waiting for my Livescan to come back I went to the class and qualified with those 3 weapons, but now I want to change one out. The person that did my qualification stated that I can go down and purchase the gun I want to substitute and she will hold off on sending the paperwork in so I can qualify with that one.
My question is, since I have already listed the weapons I want with the Sheriff Department when I did the interview, do I have to go through the whole paperwork process again to substitute the one gun or can I just take the certificate in with the substitution after my Livescan comes back?
I hope that made sense hahaha

At license issuance, SSD only cares about what you bring in as firearms certification. If it differs from what you put down on your initial app (some folks have left it blank), then you should rework that page to reflect what you want to carry and back it up with the range slips for those guns.

County government scan review is not as extensive as the CCW scan review.

Holy ****... you had to wait 6 months for Livescan approval... the line is getting worse.

Intial apt towards end of year?

I'm going to start off by saying, I am not trying to beat a dead horse here.

With that out of the way, typically, towards the end of the year does the Sac Sheriff stop accepting initial appointments? I have been checking periodically at different times of day etc. Nothing. Am I wasting my time, is there a deadline for new appointments?

Check the first week of any month for the next month. There usually full by the 1st of second day..
