Question about training places (16hr), do they give you a list of qualified instructors? Any recommend for Sacramento, so far I only know Rancho Cordova Shooting Center and they charge $189.
    Please inform me, thanks.

See post #5 on page 1 for a list of several instruction options. I took a class with Ron Etchels and enjoyed it as did others who have posted here. Even though it wasn't necessary, I also took another class earlier this month with Resolute just to get more training and a different perspective (it included moving to different positions behind barriers, etc.) I enjoyed both!

There are a lot... there's no list now. CSTA is the low cost leader, at about $100. They're a security company and you'd be lumped in with the security guard trainees.

There's a couple that are on this site that are good or are even highly recommended, but they're going to be more expensive than CSTA.

I mean it. There really is no "list" of qualified instructors anymore. If someone is qualified to teach a 16 hour class, they're technically OK for Sacramento, as near as I can tell.

From what I understand, Ron Etchells is highly recommended. A lot of people that have taken Wes's class recommend him too. I did and I do.

What do you mean there's no list....don't like my list on page 1??? I know it's not all-inclusive, but I'm trying to post any that I'm aware of just so that folks can check out which one suits their needs/budget.

Nobody here has posted about Resolute and I might be the only active CGN member that took John Souza's class at Resolute. I just took it as an extra class earlier this month even though I had already taken Ron Etchel's class in November before I got my CCW. Both were fun and educational but I did feel more confident after getting some training with maneuvers in the Resolute class, fwiw. Would be nice if I could get the extra training to count towards my required refresher class at renewal.

I was informed that the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center has been offering a quality course for some time now. I called and spoke to Jack Root, the general manager who said that a web page for the training classes should be added to their web site later this week. The next CCW class is 2/18-2/19 and I believe the cost is $250. When more info is available, I'll add it to post #5 of this thread.

                    Sacramento - **TIME TO APPLY**

Ron's class is $215 now as a friend of mine just took it a week ago. I took it back in Oct myself. I recommend it

I took Ron's class just last month and it was $185 then (and packed to the gills with students...)

I updated the price for Ron's class in post #5. I saw Ron's class was pretty crowded when I was at Sac Valley taking the Resolute class on 1/8. Both were good, IMO. I was wondering if Ron has said in a recent class how he's handling people that want to come in for some coaching. Back when I took his class last November he said he'd just squeeze us into his classes, but I wonder how that's done with how big his classes have become.

I was in Ron's class on 1/8. There were 17 people in the class, including one person who took the class before that was coming again with his mom who was taking the class for the first time. Additionally, another person showed up half way through to qualify with a new weapon for his permit for a total of 18 people on the line that day.

Ron stressed over and over again that all the rest of his classes were no charge and that all were welcome to come back and shoot with him anytime - he very much encouraged that people come back. He said your only cost would be the regular range fee that gets paid to Sac Valley.

He did mention that he would like people to call ahead and check with him to see if there was going to be space available on the day that you want to come out, otherwise if you just dropped in unannounced he may not be able to accomodate you depending on the class size that day.

With that many people in the class that day there wasn't much time for any slacking, we ate our lunches hurriedly while we were loading mags at the benches for the range portion of the class.

Here is the KCRA Video http://www.kcra.com/news/26779574/detail.html

So far this year, 175 concealed weapons permits have been issued by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. That compares to the 12 issued in all of 2008 and 67 approved last year.

Boy, this is late reporting, basically repeating numbers that was in the Bee 2-3 weeks ago and posted above. Too bad they felt compelled to bias the story and interview two people who were concerned that the increased number of the handguns was going to result in more crime. Scott Jones said that wasn't the case but there was no follow-up questioning of that.

I noticed in the comments section, comment #7, talks about a bad situation in Lodi I wasn't aware of. The PD charges $500 for a CCW??? Requires a psych exam?
