You don't need to have your weapons listed on the application. You can wait until you're further along and, once you're approved, you just need to make sure you have your final CCW weapons (up to three) to qualify with and the Sheriff's office will take your list of weapons at that time. One of my weapons is a PM9 but by then you might also have the Ruger LC9 to pick from which is more reasonably priced. You could get something even smaller like the LCP9 if you go see Mike at Tracy Rifle and Pistol to go through the single shot exemption. That said, I don't think your M&P is too big either.

You'd be surprised. I've carried a full sized M&P9 and it's not bad. I'm a small guy. I bought a glock19 for carry though.
You'll want it before your first appointment day, because the serial number goes on the app
Edit: I stand correctedComment

Just to clear up any confusion (even though JT1989 edited his post already), the application does request the weapon information but some people have been told they could leave that blank until later. My final list was on my qualifications was slightly different than what was listed on my application (added a barrel for one weapon).Comment

Did you list it with multiple calibers? ie .40/9mm or .40/357 sig? I asked and was told that it could only be carried as what was listed if the officers would look up the serial. I asked because I was thinking of getting a .357 sig barrel for my G23. I thought I had read otherwise but couldn't find it with google.Just to clear up any confusion (even though JT1989 edited his post already), the application does request the weapon information but some people have been told they could leave that blank until later. Yes, in the caliber column I've listed .40/.357 on my CCW. I have some old posts about this and some people said I was crazy and that the DOJ would nail me and other ridiculous FUD. I wrote to Amber and asked her about it and 20 minutes later she e-mailed me back and told me I could do it. I did list it as ".40/.357SIG" but she left the "SIG" part out due to space limitations.Did you list it with multiple calibers? ie .40/9mm or .40/357 sig? EDIT: Here's a link to a post in the thread I started on this with the particular post with which quotes the response I received from Amber. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...7&postcount=10Last edited by harbinger007; 03-06-2011, 8:39 PM.Comment

Just be sure to tell your instructor, before he prints your certificate, that you want your gun listed with both calibers. It's totally doable but, not very common so, he won't know to do it unless you mention it.Wesley Lagomarsino, CA CCW Instructor - Alameda, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Shasta, Yolo, Yuba, the Cities of Davis, Galt, Ione, Jackson, Lodi, Manteca, Ripon, Stockton and Tracy ... and many more to come ... and Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Nevada, Maine, Oregon, Utah, Virginia & Washington

I'm new here, I was recently turned onto this site by a friend of mine that was successful in getting his CCW, I mentioned to him that I was interested in getting mine but didn't think I could in Sac Co. but it looks like that has changed now. I printed out the application and scheduled an interview, earliest I could get so far was August 31st. The good thing is I can check several times a day for an earlier interview on my phone. My wife is probably going to get hers as well. Really glad I was told about this site!Comment
