I wondered this as well and thought of contacting the office. also I will be out of state on active duty during the time of renewal and I seriously doubt I will have the time to come home and renew. it may have to wait until I return.

      To OCSD:
Hi, My CCW expires on 5/22/16. When should I start my renewal process? I know there is, or was, a large volume of applicants and I want to start my renewal process early enough that I don't have a lapse on my CCW permit. Thank you.

      Reply from OCSD:
      Sir,

Please start the process 90 days prior to expiration.

For renewals you do not ned an appointment. All we need is the 13 page application filled out completely including section 7 pages 9 & 10. Please sign and date pages 3,8, and 11. Also attach an updated good cause statement and an utility bill. You can email, fax, or walk these documents in. Please DO NOT wait till your CCW is expired to do this. If expired you will have to start all over again.
      Thanks
      Principles over agenda

All of California is May Issue, regardless of how liberally an IA issues permits.
I remember when she did that.

As a recent OC CCW approved applicant (11/24/15), I don't remember the sheriff voiding permits. I do remember her requiring enhanced GC above "Self Defense" earlier this year due to the Peruta rehearing. I also recall that anyone in the 'pipeline' at the time was allowed to continue. Can you provide a reference for your claim of voided permits? My personal experience was that she accepted a GC barely above the "Self Defense" threshold.

I think than any of us who have been approved since she changed the GC policy will be glad she did if Peruta goes against us. If it goes our way, no harm no foul. Be glad you don't live in LA or SD county's.

I know that in a perfect world we shouldn't need any GC but unfortunately that is not the world we live in.

I was one of the folks that had their permit voided; how's that for a reference? She did it when she first took office. She voided permits for GC's that she didn't agree with.

I have been mulling over including something in my good cause statement about my heritage. While I am not religious and was actually raised a Christian, I share the last name of a second cousin, a Jewish-American who once had very close ties to the big politicos in Washington D.C. In light of the terrorist issues, should I bring this up. My primary safety concern has nothing to do with my heritage, but my statement may need something more than professionally related risks me to be approved for a CCW.

In a way I feel that if I even mention terrorism, I am taking advantage of the victims of the San Bernardino slaughter.

What do you guys think? Should I put it in or nix it?

Make a general reference to terrorism without being specific. Regarding your cousin I would leave that out. My 2 cents anyway!

And that's what you'll tell the IA. Leave it out.

Heightened threat levels are caused by terrorists, not their victims. Take advantage of the terrorists.

Sorry, I thought the comment was in reference to her GC change earlier this year. I remember the hubbub when she took over. I saw some comments at the time where she mentioned shenanigans with the Mike Corona CCW process. Something about issuing some permits to political supporters and donors which she claimed had nothing to do with personal protection but were plainly political rewards.

Morning guys, my CCW expires in May 2016. I emailed for a renewal appointment a month ago with no response. Any luck on calling in to make appointments lately?

I guess something was up with OCSD's site. They did not get any of my requests for appointments. After a few back and forth emails, I have an appointment for mid-April 2016.

The same thing happened to me. They didn't receive my request, so I called and got an appointment for February.
