I received a phone call with a restricted number. I was told that my payment has been received and application is being looked at and that within 2 weeks or less, I will receive a call from a Private or Restricted number from backgrounds. Let's hope that is good news to move forward.

According to Paladin's advice post from last year, everyone who submits an application gets an interview. So I don't think I've taken any steps up the ladder by getting the interview.

I've had some experience with LASD's CCW process. If they're going to deny you, they'll do it right off the bat. No interview. My previous attempts. Just came with a denial letter. I didn't even get to speak to anyone except the desk person to whom I handed my application.

Well that is encouraging! Will see how the interview affects my status and provide update when I know.

Interview went well, was told to get live scan done today and submit, which I did. Should I go ahead with the training or wait until I'm informed of the live scan result?

That's great news. Pretty quick. Probably won't hurt to have the training unless you don't want to spend the money on the off chance you're denied do to your live scan. My time line took a bit longer, but that could be because I screwed up and had an error in one of my gun's serial numbers on the application. They asked me about that at the interview and I gave them the correct info over the phone afterwards. My time line info for the forum:

                2-3-21: Mailed in application
2-10-21: Got voicemail to contact about interview
                2-15-21: called to schedule interview
                2-17-21: did interview
2-25-21: got email to get live scan/fingerprinted

When I called for my interview the officer asked me if I had applied with LASD yet? I replied I was under the impression that due to my locality I was to apply with LAPD first. Then she just scheduled the interview where I am to bring my application and GC letter with me.

I guess I’ll just call LASD tomorrow and find out. Wondering if anyone else here was able to bypass LAPD.

To those who have been through the LAPD process:

How long did it take from the date of interview to the date you got your denial letter?

Last week a CGNer who got denied by LASD in October for insufficient GC (Yellow) told me that LASD called them up and said LASD’s GC standard had changed since then, they now would qualify so if they’re still interested they can set an appointment for an interview.

They’re the 3rd CGNer who’ve told me that’s happened to them.

So, on their own initiative LASD is going through previously denied apps, finding ones that can pass now under a Yellow GC standard and calling them up to suggest they resume the application process.

A year ago, who would have believed LASD would ever do that?

Nobody, least of all me. I really thought that AV was going to be an SF-style extreme progressive. I was ABSOLUTELY WRONG. I think he defies political categorization, is not dogmatic, and is making his own decisions, and certainly his decisions about CCW are amazingly great so far.

I believe the reason he's doing this is because he realized that he actually has to answer to the people who voted for him. He's made enemies among the Board of Supervisors and unlike the LAPD Chief he doesn't have to kiss their a** since he can not be removed on a whim.

He damn well knows he's going to face opposition in the next election from non-latinos so this is his attempt at distancing himself from city politics and experimenting with permissive CCWs. He made enemies when he closed gun stores. Big mistake since everyone has it fresh in their mind that the police were not responding to 911 calls during the riots and there's a lot more noise about getting a CCW.

Orange County went down this road when they had a new Sheriff. San Bernardino's Sheriff is very permissive with CCWs but their city PD isn't (I'm thinking similar circumstances are due for LA now).

I didn't think we'd go to yellow so soon, I thought we'd be going to yellow in July when the new budget cuts kick in but it seems we might be due for light-green as he makes an effort to stick it to the BoS.

I guess you could all me the 4th....
I had about a 30 minute conversation with someone from the CCW unit calling me to tell me that he had reviewed my denial from last year and wanted to let me know clearly that essentially every one of the isolated items in my good cause show that I am at a elevated risk.

All of my items were solidly in the Yellow territory with maybe one Light Red.

I let him know up front that I was no longer a CA resident but that I would love to talk to him about everything if he was still willing to spend the time. When we were done talking about CCW related items, the topic turned to discussions of what NFA items I should be applying for now that I'm in a free state. There is no doubt from the specifics of the conversation that the deputy I was speaking with is an avid firearms enthusiast.
