Legal Action Regarding Extremely Long Processing Times
Hi All
Just a quick question regarding any legal action made in order to speed up the CCW process in L.A. County? The Bruen ruling was extremely clear about the fact that extremely long wait times were unconstitutional and actionable.
For a little background, I originally applied with LASD in May of 2022 several weeks before the Bruen ruling hit. Fortunately for me, I live in the City of La Verne which is one of the "non-contract" cities that the LA County Sheriff forced to develop their own CCW system. It took La Verne from August of 2022 until February of 2023 to develop their system. I began the CCW process with LVPD on Feb. 24 and was issued a CCW on May 15. This process included doing a psych eval which held the process up 3 weeks because it was overbooked.
I received my first phone call from the LASD CCW people in June which was 13 months after my application. At that point I already had my CCW from the City of La Verne which had to develop a complete process from scratch!
We really have to do something about this and as far as I can see the courts are going to be our only option. They need to be made to hurt and to have a court order and a fine laid down on them. They have systematically denied people the right to carry for a hundred years or more. It's their tough luck that they have to now clear a backlog that their unconstitutional policies created in the first place. They need to be forced to do this in a timely fashion.
