The deputy said that I may be denied because I did not include anything juvenile. And I said the questions asked I assumed that it was for my adult records only which is well over 20+ years.

Fast forward to yesterday, I received a letter that not approved due to "Failure to Complete CCW process."

Being that I was one of the first to get a LASD CCW but covered by LAPD makes it seem like they used that to move me to LAPD.

Now I have to reapply and start all over.

I'm still waiting on my initial interview... reading this I do remember some juve stuff I went through. Looks like I'll have to disclose everything that I can remember of.

They will go back to everything youth and adult. If you do not disclose it, you will be denied.

Sorry that happened to you. If it is for the reason for you to start over with LAPD instead that is really lame. To pay more and go through more process to get what you deserve. One can only wish and dream that CA can process and go through things like other constitutional states.

That's interesting. I recall someone saying for their renewal, the interviewing deputy also asked about something that happened when they were juvenile. Which is weird because I don't recall them asking me anything that happened when I was a juvenile for my initial interview. Unless it was an arrest in which case yes, the application does say ALL arrests. But I never disclosed a ticket I received when I was 17 since the application only asks about tickets going back five years.

Im not sure why there are assumptions that juvenile records are not relevant. There are a couple questions which give a timeframe- like “in the past 10yrs” but most of the questions are open ended - “have you ever” or “any” or “all”. Nowhere do they say “as an adult” or something like that. If they ask if you’ve “ever” had any incidents with the police then this would mean ever in your entire life not just your adult life. I don’t recall any questions which specifically distinguish juvenile vs adult.

Not disagreeing with what you're saying. I just find it odd that people who already held CCW permits, got blindsided by questions for their renewal. Would think everything would have come up the first time around.

Oh yeah, totally. That doesn?t make much sense at all. Only thing I could assume would be there was some change regarding what they?re checking or how deep they?re going in background checks.

Makes me wonder if they?re tightening their standards more recently. There?s a lot more attention on this whole CCW process now that good cause isn?t the factor it was before and there?s an inundation of new applicants. They might just be crossing their T?s and dotting their I?s.

First time I did my interview 2 years ago. The deputy asked the questions of only my adult records. So with the renewal, it was assumed that it would be the same. I informed my friends that are up for renewal soon to do a personal live scan if they suspect anything in their juvenile records will be brought up.

You guys seem to forget there?s a new sheriff in charge so yes things have changed albeit slightly. When I did my renewal the deputy ended my phone interview asking me if there?s anything else I forgot to mention or disclose. I knew he was talking about my juvenile record and so I disclosed it to him mentioning I disclosed it to the deputy I interviewed with 2 years ago but was told I didn?t really need to mention it then. He was waiting for that answer as he filled in the little details I forgot about since it was such a long time ago. So do as they say and disclose EVERYTHING.

When the same deputy asked me "Anything else". I told him about my juvenile record stuff. I told him all that stuff and that it was expunged. But he told me since I did not disclose it at the beginning in the application that I may be denied.

                        *LASD CCW Timeline*
                        Dropped off application - 7/10/2022
                        Live scan completed - 7/11/2022
Application entered into system - 11/07/2022

I have one year waiting and I spoke to a CCW agent today and they said that my my money order wasn’t received but luckily I kept a copy of what I dropped off so I don’t have to pay and extra $30 for their mistake. They mentioned as of today that they are currently interviewing applications that were entered in September and that I have a few more months to go until I get an interview. I guess the wait is over a year now guys.

Haven’t been on here for a while. Has anyone gotten a text from LASD to call them regarding their CCW process?
12/18/21: app walked-in and check processed by deputy
                          09/15/22: received call for interview
                          10/5/22: Interviewed at Monterey Park
10/5/22: DOJ & FBI Livescan complete
                          10/7/22: Firearms complete
02/27/23: Proceed to Training email (apparently LASD sent this in early January)
                          04/22/23: Training complete
04/26/23: Completed Certs submitted to LASD
05/02/23: Training docs received after follow-up email
                          08/22/23: Issued and picked up

Maybe there's a difference in the interview but I don't think there's a difference in the application which relates to this topic - at least not a change that was done by Luna. I submit my application over 6 months prior to Luna being elected and nowhere did it state "adult" record, note any exception for juvenile offenses or anything to that effect. All questions had verbiage like "please list all" and " have you ever".

Still weird imo. What's the difference in the 2nd live scan that the first didn't show? Seems like they're going out of their way to deny people now.

Of course they are. They don't want to issue, they don't want the public to be carrying guns, they want to deny you but the courts have put their back up against a wall. You give them ANY valid reason to deny, they will. Its not that hard to read the application and as stated a few post above they state "Have you ever..." and "List all..." That means from the day you were born to today.
