My last-shot bolt hold-in seems to be jammed or something?

It's stuck open and even if I load the magazine and push down the release, it's still stuck open...did I break my rifle after one day of shooting?

Have you tried whiggling the slide with your hand? There may be something caught. If that doesn't work, follow the take down procedure and see if you find something. The gun is really simply to disasemble, jsut make sure you keep your hand (or plastic dixie cup) ready to catch the spring as it tend to wanna fly out when you lift the bolt out.

I loved my 795's till I found out it canot be shot without the magazine. I am selling all of mine and switching back to 10/22's.

Eh? You can shoot it without the mag in, I've shot mine in a single shot configuration I believe.

Try it again. I am positive it will not work. the bolt will not go forward without the magazine being in it.

I dont know why they would do this but If I had to guess I would say it is so you can not dry fire it.

You are correct. You can not fire it without the clip in. When I took the gun apart I was looking at it in depth. The mag actually puses up on the sear I believe (or something to that extent) and allows the hammer to be engaged. No mag, no fire

I found out the hard way when took it to the range for my wife to shoot it while I surgically sighted in my .223 and she just had to sit there since I forgot the mags.

There is a very easy mod to remove the magazine disconnect. Just bend the tab on the disconnect, as shown in my picture below. Then you can shoot without magazines without trouble. The metal tab on the disconnect was flat but bending it upwards is what you are supposed to do. Don't bend it too far though cause I think it can break easily.

I'm not sure how to fix this though. The bolt on my 795 can go forward without a magazine if I push down on the bolt hold open.

Wouldn't peening behind the mount solve that anyway? Or stippling the mount with a center punch?
I know it works for dovetail sights that used to move.

Greetings to everyone from the great State of Michigan!

I picked up a 795 here about a week and a half ago. $95 after the rebate. I can't believe the waiting period and taxes you guys have out there in the Golden State.

It also came with crappy little 4x15 bb gun scope. Took it to the range and was shooting 1 inchers at 25 and 50 on the second clip at both distances.

I bought three 50 round boxes of ammo: one of remington golden hp, one of federal, and one of winchester wildcat.

The remington and federal shot great, no problems at all. But that wildcat was garbage. Out of the first 10 shots, had 4 either fail to fire, eject or load. Same with next 2 clips, and I just ended up throwing the rest away. The ammo was super dirty too. I dont know if it got wet or something, but I will still never buy it again. I'm sticking with the remington, which has always been the best for me in my other rifle.

I think this is a great forum, and I've really enjoyed reading all the threads and seeing all the mod pics.

Happy shooting to everyone and keep you powder dry!

A question that's probably been asked a thousand times......for all you guys with scopes on your 795's. Which one is the best bang for the buck? And secondly, where do I buy it? Thanks in advance.

Wallmart $20 Bushnell scope. works like a champ. While your there grab the $7 scope rings and a $2 bottle of loctite and your good to go.

The Walmart Bushnell is probably your best bet (though isn't it $30 and not $20?)

I have this scope from Walmart http://www.walmart.com/ip/CenterPoin...Scope/10248649 and I highly recommend it. It's got a red or green illuminated reticle that's neat and it came with rings that have so far worked flawlessly with some loctite. Also comes with some flip scope covers, but I only use those during storage.
