The mid-size 5000w generator spit the big end of the rod out the side of the engine case.
It's likely not worth fixing.
The big generator is a 21hp 9500w engine welder running 3600rpm because it's AC stator generator.
It uses about a gallon per hour whether you are pulling 250w or 2500w from it and up to about 1.25gph at 8000w load but I think I only get close to that when I have the 7.5hp air compressor running at the same time along with the house.
The little Honda 2000w inverter generator kicked *** for 30 hours running 4 fridges, the gas furnace, TV and DVD player. It only used a gallon every 4 hours and it's so quiet we ran it overnight.
It's only a 120v machine though so you gotta string extension cords everywhere and that means many of the niceties of the house like the electrically controlled gas water heaters and oven don't work.
Gotta power the house panel to get all the permanently-wired-in devices to work so with the 5000w generator blown up, that left me using the 9500w beast to power the whole house and get rid of all the extension cords running everywhere.
We did order a new dual fuel 5700w inverter (quiet) generator to replace the noisy 5000w that I blew up this weekend.
The new generator is supposed to run "up to" 10 hours on 3.6 gallons of gasoline at 1250w load so we will see what that actually means after I test it out the next time we have a power outage.
The new generator has a watt meter so I can see what I am actually using when running the whole house.
