I took Bouquet canyon road as a detour and noticed I was in Angeles National Forest. No target shooting other than in designated places, those designated places being actual ranges it looks like. Same for Los Padres out of Ventura. I'm heading back in a couple of days, I'll just run out into the desert on a slow day.

Mark, did you see where Ruger released the Marlin 1894 in .44mag/spl?
With .357/38spl to follow very soon. How about that!?

I did see that. A .357 would interest me. I also want a Model 336, though used would suit me fine.

Thanks Tom, it's kind of a surprise seeing the 44mag come first considering the .357 is probably 10x more popular.

I think my next levergun will be a 45/70. I've picked up a bunch of Starline brass for it at the Route 66 range so it only make sense to buy a gun to use it in. so many guns and so little money I need another gun like I need another hole in my head but I won't let that stop me.

I got this John Browning design 1911 last weekend. I told the wife that Cole needed it for backup while hunting....man! I'm running out of excuses

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Hey Tom! Hey Mark! Who's Commander is that?

Took a kinda-liberal former professional colleague out shootin' last week. We went to the Mojave berm but had to be back through the SFV before 1PM so we didn't have any time to head west into Tehachapi to visit our favorite horse whisperer...

I learned that he's only fired his 9mm Sig pistol but has been wanting a home defense shotgun for quite awhile... I brought along one of my Wingmasters wearing an 18" Parkerized po-leece barrel with rifle sights and an integral MOD-ified choke... and a whole bunch of softer-recoil LE buck and slug loads.

He admitted he'd never fired a shotgun. After some instructional basics, I let him go with 50 rounds onto some of the appliance and furniture debris left at the site by other shooters.

Oh, boy, did he ever enjoy that! and that part of the shoot session brought the biggest smile to my mug. I remember the first time I cut loose with my own shotgun.

We shot pistols, my .44 Mag 1894 SBL, some heavy .44 Special single action and finished the morning with some standard velocity rimfire from my Single Six and my 39A.

On the way home he started in on "No one should own an a-salt weapon" BS... so I countered with, "So what if suddenly a bunch of Democrats wanted to ban shotguns?"... he struggled with that one but he's smart enough to see the point, there. He's also an old friend so I cut him some slack.

What does your friend consider an assault weapon ?

Well done Chris! Damn good post. Thinking that Commander is Mark's.
Taking a buddy from Idaho to our little beer joint for lunch. He's entered in a tournament this weekend at LA Clays. Dylan is a heck of a shotgunner.

Got this full box of 38-40 for $11 at a local auction house:

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

I'm not familiar with this ammo but I'd guess the brass alone is probably worth more..

                          Good score

Right? He doesn't know but he thinks it's an AR15. I don't even know what an a-salt weapon is... because A. It's definition is far too broad... - and - B. There's no such thing.

                              Exactly right, brother....

An Assault Weapon is what they want it to be TODAY...

A Mossberg 590 loaded to the top with 00 BUCK is about as assaulting as it gets...

Lots of *** in that last line
