It was great fun! I just got tired of having to cleaning it after every shooting session. I believe the 1860 Army is one of the most beautiful SA revolvers on the planet.

An overlooked, excellently-choreographed gunfight where our hero happened to have on his belt several prepacked cylinders for his 1860, superb gun handling and reloading under time pressure, good shootin' and all that, was toward the end of the series titled "Hell On Wheels".

Found it. It's a three-minute scene that begins with Cullen rescuing Mei from her Chinese captors. Now that I see it again it looks rather one-sided.

Dagnabbit, that seems to have been edited. There was more time spent where we got to observe a cylinder swap under duress. It was very well done.

Chris - I was not able to get a real good look at the revolver, but it definitely had a top strap while an 1860 Army does not have one. I believe it may be an 1858 Remington...it is much easier to change cylinders on the Remington than on an 1860 Colt as Clint did in Pale Rider.

We can certainly have another lead-slinging party, either at "my place" or yours. We can have a couple other people join us at my range. I do have a portable set up to shoot some steel hanging targets or anything else we can hang off a cross beam for shooting out in the desert.

I miss shooting these but there's no outdoor range near me. Yes, cleaning them was a pain in the butt.

Have the registration requirements for black powder arms changed? They used to not be registered as they were not considered firearms until they get capped or something to that effect. But, IIRC, once you upgrade a black powder revolver with a modern cartridge cylinder they are now considered a modern firearm and are required to be registered. At least that's the way it used to be ages ago. I have not bought a black powder arm in decades so..... B.

I've had mine since the 90s. I bought the revolvers in the top two pictures and took them home the same day. There was no paperwork filled out except for a simple sales receipt.
The two in the bottom picture were given to me and I made the case out of an old silverware box.

You can in most cases take immediate possession, including buying and selling among private individuals.
As to conversion cylinders and such, if you peruse this site you will find some opinions by regulatory compliance enthusiasts whom claim the contrary. I would be interested in hearing of anyone who has been prosecuted for doing such.

Thanks for the tip. The method I use on the weber may not get a complete smoke ring, but I'm ok with that and it sure didn't slow down those that ate it. It still came out with great smoke flavor and everyone loved it.

                          On a different note...
Had a last minute invite to go try for some ducks on Wednesday and ended up having a great time, despite the lack of sleep on Tuesday night. Wish I could say I shot better or that all of these are mine, but I can't....Still it was a lot of fun. Lots of teal flying around. Lots of shooting. Great time.

ATF has been kind enough to provide a listing of all FFLs issued by year. It can be defined down to state of location, and an Excel spreadsheet can be downloaded.

That can be sorted by license type and zip code or city to give you a roster of local FFL-01s.

Is American Gun Works in Glendale to far to go to peruse their inventory?

I ran in to Apples over there in late August and we managed to enjoyably kill some time looking at a few of guns.
