Mojave Lever Crew - Roll Call!

Today in response to the ongoing "Rust" blame game and posturing by Hollywood my wife asked me to show her the difference between a "Live Round" and a "Blank." I didn't have any .44 cal. blanks so I just showed her an empty case with the dead primer, and a live round with a jacketed HP. She saw teh difference and stated why is this so hard?
My wife has very little firearms experience and less than zero interest in it, assuming that I, the well armed Husband will take care of any home defense situations that arise. never the less I have tried for 30+ years to educate her on safe handling of guns in general when she was of a mind to listen. Today was that day!
I then got out my Ruger SBH which is similar enough to the SAA that Baldwin used to prove the point, and showed her how to load and check the condition of the gun. I put a empty case in the cylinder and closed the loading gate and she immediately saw the brass in between the cylinder and back plate and said is that all there is to it? I said no you have to open the loading gate and spin the cylinder. to make sure there are no rounds in the chambers.
My wife now knows how to check a SA Revolver to see if it is loaded at a glance, and knows the difference between a live round and an empty cartridge.
This took @3 minutes to teach someone who knows little to nothing about guns how to check one for condition.
What pisses me off to no end is listening to people on TV who supposedly have firearms experience pontificate on whos responsibility it was for that shooting.
Long and short of it is that he (Baldwin) violated Rule #1, #2 and #4 right out of the gate, by not checking the gun himself. He pulled the trigger, and he is responsible for every round he sends down range. Period! case closed.
Now there is Speculation on how a live round got into the gun? It could have been sabotage? Well if he'd checked the gun that would have been caught. it was supposed to be a "Dress Rehearsal?" The gun should have been empty which he could have checked by simply glancing at the gun and seeing if there was brass in the cylinder. If he saw brass he should have given the gun back to that Armorer to unload, or he could have done it himself and fired the Assistant Director or whatever he was for calling a "Cold Gun" that wasn't. Point being nobody had to die.
Now they want to ban "real guns" from movie sets and use Rubber Guns??? Further perpetuating gun ignorance in Hollywood. You think that would have happened to John Wick? He actually trained with live ammo and you can see it on Youtube!
I remember playing at a friends house when I was 7 years old and finding a Stevens Single Shot .22 rifle under the couch. The first thing I did was put the hammer on half cock and open the rolling block to see if it was loaded. The kid that lived there didn't know how to do it but my Uncle had shown me on a similar gun. We then proceeded to find a box of .22 shorts and go out into the back yard and shoot at cans. This was in the middle of Midtown Ventura in 1957, right down Catalina St. from Ventura High School and nobody cared and nobody got hurt.
Now they'd put us in reform school and keep us on lithium!!!
I feel better now.

I'd like to politely ask you fellers to please take the discussion of the Baldwin shooting to either thread in General Discussion; either General Guns or Off Topic.
Thanks.

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

I think I posted this one a week or two ago. It's a pretty good deal if you like the plastic grips, which I do. I've seen them come in and out of stock for the last month or so. The lowest I've seen is $458.00 and the highest is $525.00

That's a very nice Cattleman and I might decide on wood grips eventually but the plastic would be fine for now. I do like the Buy Now option and that's what I'll be looking for on GunBroker.I think I posted this one a week or two ago. It's a pretty good deal if you like the plastic grips, which I do. I had a nice talk with Match Grade Gunsmiths in Cerritos today and they handle guns ordered from the internet. They are registered with GunBroker and told me to go ahead and buy what I want and fill in their name. They charge $115 total for the service and any fees so I'm okay with that. It's worth it to avoid the stress of waiting and waiting for something that may never come in.

$115.00 isn't bad at all. You'll probably pay tax through GB. Generally, you'll have 3 days to send it back if your not happy.
You might ask your new FFL if he can order the gun for you. I'll always give mine a chance to match the total selling price, shipping and their transfer fees. Most of the time my FFL will match or beat the price. This way your not losing and also supporting your local shop.It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

He didn't seem interested in ordering and said I didn't even have to notify him of any purchases. He said if a gun arrived in my name I would be notified to come in and start the paperwork.$115.00 isn't bad at all. You'll probably pay tax through GB. They are not a gun shop, they are a gunsmith so I guess this is something they do on the side.

I've lived here since I was seven years old (1957). All of my teen years were in the 1960s and this was a very cool place to live. Beach, mountains, desert and California girls.
Then, fast forward to today.

Couldn't agree more GB49. So-Cal slot car racing, then desert dirt bike racing with beer and girls, then lever guns, S/A revolvers. Ha, just look at me now!

Born in Glendale in 1949, my Dad worked for Lockheed in Burbank. He and I had a particular aversion to the air pollution, it gave us burning eyes and headaches. When we moved out in 1958 for a four year stint in Japan we vowed never to return. We settled in the west Santa Clara Valley in 1962, the exact opposite as far as air quality.

I was born in Encino and grew up in Sepulveda. Most all the girls in H.S. were blondies..... so much so I got sick of them and started seeking out brunettes. C.B radios, the beach, surfing, necking at Stoney Point and Green Tank. It was a way different scene back then.
There was a slot car track on the north end of the Van Nuys Airport.... Crash and Burn, maybe? Used to hang out there a lot, as well as the Plush Pocket over on Parthenia and Balboa. The Valley was a great place to grow up in the 70's.Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!
