Thank you all. You helped. Off to Visalia to do battle w/ Sportsman's customer service. If I'm not back by Saturday send Horse and the Fire Five with shovels and MLC weaponry.

I say get them both so you're only in trouble with the CFO once.

              Rtom,

Wait for what you REALLY want. Otherwise you could be buying a shooter and a "safe queen". I try to show the CFO I am a rational gun nut (is that a contradiction, oxymoron, or just a plain ordinary moron?).

Wolf, I hear ya. Last time I was up in the Mojave was late April, on an 85-degree day in full sun. It had been breezy all morning so I didn't build my shade like I normally would have. By 2 PM it was HOT (felt like 100) and I had to stop and air up my tires (don't normally air down for that trip but was experimenting - I won't do that again) before I pulled onto the highway. I was beginning to wonder if my VIAIR 400P would hold up in the heat with two more tires to go...

Point being is I won't go chootin' out there unless I know the forecast high is no more than 90 and I have built shade so I can hang out all dang day. Really want to camp out there but it's too close to Adelanto and I don't want to be out there by myself if drunk and ill-intentioned lowlifes roll up on me in the dead of night [gotta have another person or two so's at least one can sneak off way to one side and cover the proceedings with a good rifle].

                  MEANWHILE...

Time to post a thread on CZs!

I know what ya'll mean. Was in the Mojave today. (Along with every other day. I live here.) and was going to go out and change the shocks on my camping van but noticed it was 102 degrees.

                    There is always tomorrow.

HW - beautiful pictures. Just beauties!

Long story short. Firearms Line was 23 people deep. Spoke to a guy that had gotten there at 9:15. He'd just got to the counter to do his business. It was 12:50. I left. Couldn't believe they did have a line for pick ups only. Got home from my business in Visalia and Bakersfield about 6 pm. Immediately got on the internet. Cancelled everything with Sportsman's. Ordered R92 .45 lc 16" blued from Gunprime in Alabama for $479. $60 less than SW. $19 to ship. Arranged with Bernard Wittkins, Ventura to be my FFL for the DROS. $75 for transfer including state fees. Be here in less than 2 weeks. Done deal.

If you need FFL in Ventura County call Bernard. Good guy, knowledgeable and really reasonable compared to a lot other FFL's at $125 + fees. Going to Kingman tomorrow to remove the frustration or celebrate the new deal by running a ton thru my son's R92.

I frequently drive through a small place named Caliente; I reckon it was named that for a reason. While is is cooler along the creek as we go a bit eastbound, it picks up again as you exit.

Chris its a .243. Nichole, my wife has stolen it since she's taken up pig hunting. She and Steve our ranching partner had given that to me as a gift some years back and my friend Jamison gave me that Leopold up on top, a 3x9 compact.

First time she'd ever fired a rifle past pistol/plinking ranges. Probably minute of dead pig:

However the pigs they do not accommodate. They've been staying at about 400-500 yds out. Too much for the .243 and her shooting skills right now.

So she's seriously looking at the Henry Long Ranger in 6.5 Creedmore. I'd shown her several bolt actions in that caliber, including the Weatherby, Howa and the Bergara. However she says she's a lever girl so we'll probably get the Henry, plus she really likes the Henrys she has already. She's already named it the Lone Ranger of course, (Clayton Moore was a friend of her mom's).

Yep Big Tyler really likes that Kimber. His favorite ranch gun these days.

Tom rescuing you in Ventura would be way more fun than Visalia. Love riding at the beach:

Bet I could round up a whole posse for the rescue!

                                HW,

"she says she's a lever girl " My heart skipped a beat. You are a lucky man.

There is lots of love for the 243 in the lever and bolt communities. I think Randall prefers it over the 6mm for long range shooting.

Long distance, flat shooting, but does it have enough clout for large feral hogs at 200 yds? I'm guessing "yes" with a good shot but experience always trumps a guess.

Have a great weekend. Stay safe.
