Chris, which model Marlin are you writing about here, the 39?

Make sure it is degreased and then apply Birchwood Casey blueing paste, leave it on a minute or so and then wipe it off. It may take more than one application. Then oil it to stop the process. There are photos on that thread. To me, it looks like somewhat worn case hardening but folks like it and it removed the issue of scratches in the black paint. Other brands of cold blue might work as well but Birchwood Casey is what I have seen referenced.
I'll have to run over there and check it out...
    Thanks brother..

The Big Boy Classic[brass] is a hardened brass with a higher tensil strength. I'm not a metal type guy, so can't explain. But, it's in the Henry info.

I just had a guy PM me regarding my WTB ad....his join date is Sept 2021...

I'm retired, I got all the time in the world. How long can I keep this guy on the hook? Any suggestions for drawing it out and wasting his time?

Brass is not as hard as steel but I'm not concerned about the brass receiver on my Big Boy. I plan on getting a steel Big Boy in .41 magnum but that's only because I want a mixture of CCH, steel and brass in my lever action collection. The Big Boy Classic and Big Boy Carbine both have brass receivers and are available in .41 magnum. I wouldn't be concerned about either one handling full magnum loads.
I just read that Henry uses a material called "gunmetal" which is a brass alloy that is stronger than regular brass.

The bad thing about brass is that it scratches easy. The good thing about brass is that it will buff right out

My bad. I meant to type, "This model Henry... has a Zamak receiver". Talking about my experience with the H001 series guns. Mine was an H001M chambered in .22Mag/.22WMR

Dvrjon, the brass receiver Henry is called the "Classic". This is the centerfire model. Henry has several models in .22 that are brass, which are called 'Golden Boys". Various other Henry models also have brass receivers and butt plates such as the "Original". Henry has a lot of model configurations.

In case anyone is interested, here is the info on our match this month. Everything is always optional so if you don't want to shoot "modern guns," you have that choice.
                        Rick

Our monthly match will be this Saturday, 9 OCT 2021, at Burro Canyon. This will be our annual OK Corral match where we recreate the most infamous gunfight of the old west. I want to try something a little different this year, so in addition to your single action revolvers, bring modern gear. The idea is to shoot each stage twice, once with the period guns, then with more modern kit. The comparison should be interesting. We will also have our customary cowboy themed three gun stage.

9 AM. Check in with us (not the office) at Range 1C across the road from the office. We have the range all day so you are welcome to stay and shoot afterwards. Cost is $35 to cover range rental, targets and pasters. If everyone helps out scoring and pasting targets, the match goes much more quickly.

I brought the Winchester him and now the trifecta is complete! Lighting sucks in my pictures but it’s easy to tell why the Winchester commands more money. I almost felt bad pulling the sticker off the magazine tube.

Of course, I call this the trifecta but I’ve still got several marlin 1894’s on my GB watchlist. I’m thinking I’m going to wait for the Rugers to be in production before I decide whether or not buy a used 1894CB.

One thing to note is the lever throw radius on the Winchester is very minimal. I’ve never handled another but supposedly this model is factory short stroked.

Cheeeziss... the Henry looks like a turd compared to the Winchester 1873 and the Marlin 1894...

And that 1873 is gorgeous. Sell it to me.

Will there be, as in SASS competition, any restriction on the use of jacketed projectiles? SASS specifies lead only (I believe powercoated is ok).

Just curious. Looks like fun. I'll know later in the week which event I'll try to get to...

No restrictions on projectiles other than no steel core. We don't dress up, either. We shoot silhouettes, bowling pins and wood knockdowns. If there had been rain recently, we would shoot steel. For this match, we even have a cutout of a horse...
