Serial number stars with a "C", does that mean it was made in 1946?

      Hey BOBGBA,
If you are referring to the Marlin 1894S possibly being made in 1946, it wasn't.
The "S" stands for having a cross bolt safety. I believe the 1894 "S" series started production around 1983/1984.
The rubber butt pad/plate that you have instead of a hard bakelite or plastic butt plate with a white spacer is another indication of a much later 1984 version. Still a great rifle and caliber but not from 1946.

        nickel plate - Thanks.

The serial number starts with EDIT C24 C45.
The table I looked at (https://www.gunvaluesboard.com/marli...ture-1664.html) seemed to indicate if the ser # started with a C, it was from 1946.
I didn't really believe that it was from 1946. It just didn't look that old to me, which is why I asked.

If I use the first 2 numbers (24), it might be from 1976.

Any guidance that you or the other guys here can provide to determining production year would be much appreciated.

        Thanks again.

Got to love those Colts, Bob..

          Thanks for sharing.

That Marlin looks pretty good for being 13 years older then me. Unless the barrel is bent

Well Bob, whatever year that 1895 was made, it has some clean lines.
And no "Perch Belly"! Very nice rifle and revolvers also. Score board!

Happy to share. I'm zeroing in on the production date, it's actually turning out to be a lot younger.

Thanks for that, it was both interesting and informative.
I went back and looked at the actual serial number (instead of using my oh so fallible memory).
It is C4500025 (the first 2 numbers seeming to identify the caliber, as suggested in the thread you referenced).
Perhaps the "C" is for a Cabela's special run (also as suggested in the referenced thread).

I pulled out the 2015 BB of Gun Values that I have and here's what it has to say.

                  Blue Book Description.jpg

Looks Like it was made between '88-'91.

Thanks, I'm hoping to load up some rounds in the near future.
This will be my first time reloading metallic cartridges.

You can go to lowes or home depot and buy some small plastic paint cans. They come in one gallon and quart size, black plastic, with airtight lids.

                      Bob, baby! YEAH

Those are gorgeous pistols... (I seen 'em in person, see). Even IF you wanted to sell me one of those, I cain't aff-ord it at the moment so you're off the hook.

I would like to see that .45 '94 up close, though.

To anyone who might be a'feared of the Marlin 1894 reputation, there's nothing wrong with any Marlin 1894 of any vintage that can't be fixed. Getchoo one and we can minister to it's ailments. Easy peasy. You'll have a great gun after that.

If you are indeed refering to Single Action Shooting Society, then, why not?
Most here have SA's, just may not be active in SASS.

What kind of a question is that?

The MLC is simply a group of like-minded calgunners that like to shoot lever action long guns when target shooting in the Mojave desert on BLM land, or, for those members in more distant locales, shooting their lever actions wherever they like to shoot. As such, we are an informal group. This informal group also enjoys shooting single-action revolvers along with anything else that goes bang.

As an informal group of folk, the MLC has no official position on any other organized shooting clubs or entities.

Well said. Maybe SASS will endorse the MLC.[just kidding everyone.]
