Mojave Lever Crew - Roll Call!

Hickok45 has a good video on the 1860 Henry. He talks about Volcanic Repeating Arms and how Horace Smith, Daniel Wesson, Oliver Winchester and Benjamin Tyler Henry were all involved.I sure do like the 1860 Henrys, though; the original Henry repeater.
It was the first commercially successful repeating rifle-gun.
Uberti has a nice rendition, here.
Modern Henry almost nailed it with the Yellow Boy octagonal, like the one GeeBee posted.

If memory serves me well, the original .45 Colt did have a small rim as it was designed for the Colt SAA with no need for the rim to be involved in the extraction. This is why no period repeating rifles were chambered for it. When the government adopted the 1909 New Service in .45 Colt, the rim was enlarged to ensure reliable extraction from the DA revolver. All .45 Colt ammo made now has the wider rim and is suitable for repeating rifles. The action was the first thing I noticed when I handled the Henry at the gun shop. I still like the Winchester. It's the Trails End model that came out back in the 90s and it may have been the first time the Model 94 was available in that caliber.
I have recently read some negative things about lever actions chambered in .45 Colt. Some say that the .45 Colt has a small rim diameter and that causes extraction problems. Then I read that was only the case years ago and today's .45 Colt cartridges have a wider rim diameter.
I plan on ordering a Winchester Model 1892 Large Loop Carbine just for fun (you know, John Wayne and Lucas McCain) and I intend to get that in .45 Colt.
High today in Apple Valley is 72. Highs in the mid 60s and 70s all week. I plan to go to the AVGC today to shoot my Ruger .45 and .357 revolvers and my Rossi 92 in .45 Colt to make sure I am ready for the match on Saturday.Comment

I'm definitely happy that the rim situation is no longer a problem because I do like my lever actions in .45 Colt. Hopefully I'll have a couple of .357s soon but the .45 Colt will always be number one.If memory serves me well, the original .45 Colt did have a small rim as it was designed for the Colt SAA with no need for the rim to be involved in the extraction. I'm curious, has anyone here ever considered a Henry side gate lever action .410 shotgun? I don't know exactly why but it looks interesting to me. It might be a novel item in a lever action collection.

Roger that Mark. I'll bring it along. Got some new loads I want to try in the Pietta. The Taylor's stays at home this time; it doesn't need any work.

Good to know. Thanks Randall.
One still has to express an interest in joining... otherwise.
We have also said again and again that the only! requirement for membership (it's free!) is a *desire* to own a lever action firearm.
