Henry sent me that video and it looks like a PITA. I have the steel side gate 357 and would like something other than a complete removal of the firing group, etc.

That color case is beautiful. Couldn't find one in 357.

DO NOT POLISH THE GOLDEN BOY RECEIVERS They aren’t brass. (The curved buttplate and the barrel band are solid brass, but have a clearcoat on them.)

From the GB Manual, Page 12:
Important: The Golden Boy’s Brasslite or Nickel receiver and butt plate should be maintained only by gently wiping with a clean, soft, dust-free cloth. Do not apply solvents, oil or wax to these surfaces.
(The center fires are solid brass).

Years ago, when I got my GB, I was unhappy with the wood fit and some tarnishing on the “brass”. I contacted Henry, and when I mentioned I was going to polish the tarnished areas, they told me not to because it’s Brasslite, not brass. They explained that Brasslite is a microns-thick coating covered with clearcoat. Abrasives will "scratch" it enough to cloud it. The luster comes from the polishing of the base metal prior to coating. Clean with any non-abrasive cleaner and do not polish it.

Henry asked that I send the gun back to address the quality issues, but before I did that, I felt a need to remove the cover and inspect it. The Brasslite cover is merely a shroud over a base metal receiver. Of course, Murphy helped during reassembly, the appropriately-sized, hollow-ground, used only for firearms screw driver slipped because I sucked, and I gouged the cover. (It is a very thin coating). When I sent the gun back, I explained my error and asked them to replace the cover and bill me for the cost.

The gun came back in perfect condition with a new cover and no charges.

When we got ours the clear coat had kinda peeled on the butt plate. I called Henry and asked if it was just a clear coat with the thought of buffing it off. Being a knife maker do have some experience at buffing metal. Anyhoo the very nice lady on the phone was aghast that I should have to do that and INSISTED that she immediately send a whole new stock out to me. I told her it was just the butt plate and she said they were not available by themselves and two days later, there's my UPS man dropping off the new stock. No charge. I swapped the butt plates as the new one wasn't the extra stupid super wood that the original was. Buffed the clear coat off the old butt plate and mounted it on the new stock and so If anyone ever breaks the rear stock on their GB I got an extry.

I've mentioned a few times that I have the Henry CCH steel frame rifle and carbine in .357 magnum ordered but it's been several weeks and no luck yet. When I ordered my Big Boy Classic it arrived in two weeks so I'm wondering if it's just the CCH models that are hard to get. I called my gun shop this morning and they said all we can do is wait. I could get the deposit back and put it on something else or just wait and buy something else in the meantime.

I've got a few things on my want list I can try for:
Winchester Model 1892 Large Loop Carbine in .45 Colt.
Henry Big Boy Steel Frame (no CCH) in .41 magnum.
              Taylor's & Co. 1866 Yellowboy Carbine in .45 Colt.
Uberti 1866 Yellowboy Short Rifle in .45 Colt.

The Yellowboys would be one or the other, not both.

I had a similar experience with my H001. They have very good customer service. They included a nice coffee mug and baseball cap in the return package.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Holy cow; this thread is up to 40 pages! Damn! Keep at it guys.
Mark, I have that Henry baseball cap you gave me, or I should say the wife has it. She confiscated and wears it when we go for a walk. Wimmens!

Dvrjohn, thanks for that! I for sure wouldn't have read the manual and not known. 😆

Its the one thing that I don't like about the H001. Its basically what I call a pot metal receiver. I have seen some guys strip off the black finish and polish up the silver pot metal. They look pretty good.

I had an H001M (.22WMR) for awhile but it didn't want to group well enough with any ammo, so I sold it and rolled the dough into my first Marlin.

                          Always a good decision.

What I learned about those rimfire Marlin was that they had covers screwed onto a Zamak (premium! pot metal, now) pressure-cast receiver.

That was my first thought when I read that post. I immediately went to their website to make sure the Big Boys are solid brass. I had already bought a bottle of Brasso for the Big Boy and my black powder replicas.

I saw on rimfirecentral.com a method of stripping the black finish on a standard Henry .22 and then working on it to give a CCH appearance. Basically you strip the black paint off the receiver cover (having taken it off the gun, of course.) Polish the cover with 0000 steel wool to your liking. Make sure it is degreased and then apply Birchwood Casey blueing paste, leave it on a minute or so and then wipe it off. It may take more than one application. Then oil it to stop the process. There are photos on that thread. To me, it looks like somewhat worn case hardening but folks like it and it removed the issue of scratches in the black paint. Other brands of cold blue might work as well but Birchwood Casey is what I have seen referenced.
