Single Shot Exemption Explanation/Database Thread

Totally new to handguns and have been researching quite a bit which lead me to the XDM. Was totally confused to not be able to find any XDM's for sale here in CALIF.

Read thru this entire thread over the past few days. *WHEW!*

There is A LOT of great useful information for us CALIF folks. At first, it was quite a daunting ordeal to try and understand everything, but once I set my mind to it to patiently go thru and understand everything, I think I have a decent understanding of how it is working.

So, THANKS TO EVERYBODY who contributed to this thread and put their time and knowledge towards this endeavor and for being so patient and answering all of the questions!!!

I'm glad someone is on the same boat as I am. I've been shooting a few times before but really caught interest in it a few months ago when I was hitting targets easily. I am also new to handguns and been doing a lot of research for the pass 2 month. From my research it seems that the XD and XDm have caught my attention, mostly the XDm. I too found out when I was at RifleGear that the XDm wasn't on the safe gun list when I asked if they had them in stock. Signed up for calguns.net and landed in this thread about SSE. I'm still debating rather to get a XD 45 and save some money or go straight for the XDM 45. From my research it seems that the most cost effective and easiest way would be purchasing it from Table Rock Arms and having it transfer to a local FFL that with accept SSE. I would be interested to see which route you take as far as getting a XDM.

Also I'm assuming sales tax would have to be collected at your local FFL also right?

Not sure of where in CA you're located, but EBR Works has the XDM's in stock. They're in Newbury Park.

In Nor Cal, I'm trying to get a hold of Valkyrie Arms in Milpitas, but I haven't had a response to my e-mail. Will probably just have to call them. Another place is Mount Pleasant Arms, but they don't seem to have the .45 ACP available, only 9 mm.

I am new here and have a quick question about SSE's. Oh yeah, thanks for putting this resource together.

If the guns off roster are illegal to bring into CA, unless they are in SSE form, how are gun shops in CA able to sell them? I understand if you get the conversion made in another state (say Oregon) and that dealer sends it to a FFL in CA, then you buy it. That makes sense. But there are over a dozen CA dealers who are advertising that they have Gen 4 Glocks and XDM's in stock. Is it legal for them to order these off-roster guns, take delivery of them and do the conversion? Why aren't they under the same rules that a civilian would be?

Off roster guns are not "illegal" to bring into CA and they do not need to be SSE prior to being imported. For years some dealers have stocked non-roster pistols to be sold to LEO customers. As an FFL they can order a non-roster pistol without issue...

Why aren't they under the same rules that a 'civilian' would be? Seems clear, they are an FFL and are licensed as such in order to sell and transfer firearms...on or off roster.

To preform an SSE with drop in parts you do not need to be an 07 FFL, 01 FFL is fine.

One more question - If many/most 07 FFL's on the first page can do the SSE conversions themselves, why would they even accept transfers from other dealers, such as Table Rock Arms (Oregon)? Similarly, why are many people going this route instead of doing 100% of the transaction at their local dealer? I assume any dealer that even accepts SSE transfers would make the fee so high that it would be unattractive for a customer to do such a transfer and would drive the customer to buying from his/her local dealer directly. Am I missing something?

for some reason he can't get ahold of LCPs right now
but can do the sse
just don't buy it from budsguns'
tried that a few weeks ago
wanted shipped to him in og, buds wouldn't ship it there.
