If I wanted a custom 1911 that wasn't on the roster, I could order it as a "single-shot pistol with a barrel length of not less than six inches and that has an overall length of at least 10 1/2 inches when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled."

then, after taking possession, I could restore it to normal functionality?

I realize this is a pretty complex question and you may not know the answer or be willing to answer on a public forum. But I thought I'd check. There's info on the SSE process for California at the below if you or anyone else has

It's correct that Insight Shooting Range won't accept any SSE transfers. I visited Insight Shooting Range last week. I spoke to Mike, the Korean guy who is the owner. He made it very clear that he wouldn't accept any SSE transfers.

I'm assuming AR/AK pistols... or just breaking down rifles/converting to bullet button. OP has been updated.

I have been discussing the single shot exemption process with my management contact at STI. He appears willing to listen and will take the information I provided to the upper level decision makers in the company. He was completely unaware of what is happening here with single shot exemptions and was very intrigued as to the possibilities. We'll see what happens.....
