Go back to the first post and read Section 3. I'd recommend you call all of the stores in Section 3 to see if they can SSE an M&P for you. Understand that not all shops can convert the same guns and not all guns can be converted. So in some cases, you might be limited to the 1 shop that has the parts/ability to convert the gun you want. Which means that if they refuse to ship the gun, then you'll have to make the trip to buy it. It might also be very possible that no one can SSE the gun you want (parts not available, too expensive, etc). Good luck!

Springfield Custom Shop w/ Mods a No-Go to CA?
Here is a snipet of an email exchange with Debbie over at the Springfield Custom shop. What I was hoping to purchase was a Custom Champion Carry in a lightweight frame with some modifications.
Q: 4) Will you ship the firearm to a CA 007 FFL?
A: In CA, the only Custom Carry model that is approved is the base model, full sized steel in .45ACP with the basic features listed below. No changes can be made to the pistol if it is to be shipped to CA unless you are law enforcement and can provide the dealer with the proper paperwork as well as send a department letterhead or copy of your credentials to our shop with the order.
So I am out of luck or am I missing something?sigpicComment

Yep, SA has taken the position that they will not ship off roster handguns to California without proof that it is being sold to LE. Same as STI and a few other wholesalers.Comment

In theory, yes, but SA won't do it unless they get a letter saying that it is for a LEO. If you can get a LEO to send a copy of their ID to SA, then it could be shipped to your FFL and converted to a single shot and then transferred to you.
A FFL can order firearms which are not on the certified list IF the place that they get them from will ship to CA without additional requirements, but SA has additional requirements, which is their choice. You could also find a middleman FFL to order it and then ship it to CA.Kemasa.

What the will do is ship you any on roster gun that once registered, you can send back for upgrades. I spoke to Dave Williams about this as I wanted a Custom Carry special build, so he gave me some alternatives to get exactly what I want while also dealing with the roster. Here is a snipet of an email exchange with Debbie over at the Springfield Custom shop. If there is a base model of what you want on the roster, order it and they'll build it your way after registration.I voted against Obama before it was cool.

The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!Comment

So if I am getting this straight... I want a custom carry compact "light weight", which is not on the roster, and therefore cannot be purchased in CA, but a loaded champion "light weight" is. So I could have SA custom make a loaded champion "light weight" to spec, but with the attention to detail. Go the single shot route, and then send back for any customization. Is that right? What the will do is ship you any on roster gun that once registered, you can send back for upgrades. Even if that is right, sheesh, that may not be worth it. May as well get a light weight and send it in.Last edited by Stryprod; 04-11-2012, 6:05 PM.sigpicComment

No, you would buy a firearm which is on the list, transfer it and then send it back to have it modified. Otherwise, you could have one made to your specs, convert it to single shot and then transfer it.
The exact model has to be on the certified list, so any changes would mean it was not on the list. If you convert it to single shot, then it does not matter and would not need to be on the list.Kemasa.

Totally new to handguns and have been researching quite a bit which lead me to the XDM. Was totally confused to not be able to find any XDM's for sale here in CALIF.
Read thru this entire thread over the past few days. *WHEW!*
There is A LOT of great useful information for us CALIF folks. At first, it was quite a daunting ordeal to try and understand everything, but once I set my mind to it to patiently go thru and understand everything, I think I have a decent understanding of how it is working.
So, THANKS TO EVERYBODY who contributed to this thread and put their time and knowledge towards this endeavor and for being so patient and answering all of the questions!!!

Good luck in your quest for your XDm. I know that there are several members that have them and really like them.Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Thanks for the welcome!
If I can't find one, I may have to go to Plan B, but I'm not sure if I should stick with an XDM in 9 mm (since they seem to be easier to find as SSE?) or if I should stick with 45 ACP and get a regular XD.
Anyways, don't want to derail this topic, I will probably start another thread.

Buds denied my order
I just attempted to order a Dan Wesson Valor 1911 from Bud's and chose Valkyrie Arms as the FFL, I'm lucky enough to live very close to them. Well, about an hour after the purchase I received an email from Buds that the order will be refunded due to the fact that this is an off-roster handgun. Even though I put in the notes that VA is an 07 FFL and will accept off-roster handguns to perform the SSE modification before the DROS process.
I just created a ticket with Buds explaining the above and gave them a link to VA's SSE process so we'll see how that goes. It's frustrating because I called VA yesterday night to confirm that they have indeed done transfers from Buds for SSE modification and they assured me they had.
Does anybody have a contact name from somebody at Bud's who's "in the know" about the SSE process? If not, what SSE friendly places are there out there that has a Dan Wesson Valor's and will ship to Valkyrie Arms?
P.S.
My father was looking to get a Desert Eagle in .50AE using the SSE process if everything went to plan on my Valor, so hopefully there is a place out there that can service both my father's and my needs. Was hoping it would be Buds...
ThanksThis law is basically on the honor system in 2017 and CA has no honor so CA can go F itself. --Nodaedul

Bud's policy is not to ship off roster handguns to California unless the buyer is a LEO or exempt.Comment
