if the pistol already has a 6in 9mm barrel and you add a single shot magazine would that suffice?

The pistol must also be minimum 10.5" OAL measured parallel to the bore. You'll probably need a longer barrel to achieve this.Last edited by EBR Works; 03-11-2012, 3:31 PM.Comment

The magazine has to require a tool to remove it, otherwise it could be removed and any magazine installed, which would make it not a single shot.
As said, the barrel length AND overall length requirements must be met as well.Kemasa.

Correct. And this has NOTHING to do with CA AW laws, this is just to make the gun's topology similar to that of various Remington XP100s, etc.
Yes, we generally refer to that collectively as "dimensionally compliant". Single-shot status alone is not enough. Remember also that revolvers must hold 5 or more rounds to qualify for the single-action revolver exemption, just to cover any edge cases. As said, the barrel length AND overall length requirements must be met as well.

Glad I found this thread; learned a lot and got to thinking about the pistols I always thought I couldn't have... Have a scenario I would like to see if it can be done:
1. Say I have all the parts necessary for putting a 1911 together minus the frame. If a 07 FFL who is local in Cali is willing, could they order a frame (Caspian for example), then assemble the whole pistol into SSE format with parts I supply plus SSE compliant parts, and then DROS to me?
Apologies if this has been asked and answered before. I spent a good hour reading 10 pages here and have read some posts dealing with frames but not my specific question (I don't think) and I couldn't read on anymore...
Thanks much!Last edited by pklin1297; 03-11-2012, 10:41 PM.NRA Member, CAPRC MemberComment

Im glad we have the list of ffls willing to accept sse transfers. And i believe i have one more to add in Lompoc. But i think it would also be helpful to create a list of shops or distributors willing to configure your weapon of choice to single shot or to even sell it to a CA resident.
Currently looking to get a CZ sp-01 tactical and then a p07 duty both of which are off roster CZs and its a pain trying to find someone to do that.Comment

Go back to the first post and read Section 3. Understand that not all shops can convert the same guns. So in some cases, you might be limited to the 1 shop that has the parts/ability to convert the gun you want. I'd recommend you call the stores in Section 3 to see if they can convert your CZ. It might also be very possible that no one can convert it for you (parts not available, too expensive, etc). Good luck! But i think it would also be helpful to create a list of shops or distributors willing to configure your weapon of choice to single shot or to even sell it to a CA resident.

Thank you. I dont know how I overlooked that list. Ryan at Tablerock does have the conversion for them but CZs are like a mythical unicorn as far as finding one. Emailed valkyrie twice and never got a response. You make a good point. By the time i pay all the extra fees and wait i could be enjoying a nice sig 226...Comment

Here is a link to our updated SSE pistol list that we offer.
We have 2 options at this point:
1: Buy the gun from us and we will charge you our normal price for the gun (assuming it is in stock, or not heavily back ordered). Once the gun is yours, you will come back in the shop to return our SSE parts in exchange for the factory parts that it came with.
2: Buy the gun from another dealer and have it transfered to us. We charge $100 + DROS+ CA sales tax for this type of transaction.
Either way we will do our best to get you the gun you want._______________________________________ _______________________________________________ __________________________________

I didn't see anyone listed who could help me get an M&P 40 Pro into SoCal. Anyone know who has parts/ability to do this?I voted against Obama before it was cool.
Originally posted by 1911LuvrI beg to differ. The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!Comment
