Gonna plug Grant at Ammoparadise.com (based in Anaheim) on this. His prices are pretty good and he doesn't charge extra for SSEs purchased from him. Find what you want, set up an appointment with him, and order online. I ordered a Sig P938 Equinox (somewhere around $650 plus tax and DROS), went to do the DROS, and am waiting my 10 days. No issues so far, he's a nice guy, and he shares his office with a sweet friendly dog. I'll be going back for my next SSE.

Edit: Just read superbart's original post. I have no idea if he is willing to do out-of-state but it's worth asking considering his convenience and service.

Another vote for Ammo Paradise in Anaheim/Yorba Linda area. I ordered my first 9mm SSE pistol last month through Gant and he was great on price and communication too. In fact, I just ordered another pistol today.

Ventura County SD Will Not Permit Carry of SSE's

The other day I was rejected for adding a SW.45c to my LTC because the DROS wouldn't match the gun perfectly. That's because I'd converted it back to original specs. The only difference would be "SSE" on the DROS. The deputy said it was fine for me to buy the gun, etc., but they weren't going to let me carry it. Due to a malfunction of their equipment, I have to go back tomorrow afternoon to finish up because I am putting an MP Shield 9mm on my LTC also, with no problems.
I was under the mistaken impression that I could carry my otherwise perfectly legal pistol. I'd read this section and was very confidant.
Turns out it's more at the discretion of the IA. Brother, am I bummed out. This pistol fits my hand like my favorite Glock 19 but shoots like it would stop a cougar in full charge.

Please advise. I have 24 hours to think of a reason that will persuade them to let me carry this legal to own gun. And don't be surprised when they reject your sweet new Gen4 Glock or any other gun with SSE on the DROS. I really screwed the pooch on this one. Holsters, extra mags, ammo....close to a grand for a gun i cannot carry. I didn't bring it up, either. They are just really down on SSE's here in Ventura and I don't know why or if it's even legal for them to deny my right to carry an otherwise legally owned weapon in stock form.

I wanted to add that, in spite of their decision that the DROS must conform to the actual gun with respect to its status as SSE, I'm not going to go in there with a kit installed in order to achieve conformity. I've been treated with nothing but kindness and courtesy in that office and I would prefer to leave this one up to someone who can give me a section of penal code or something less confrontational to work with.

They mentioned I might have court trouble later on if they allowed a discrepancy between the firearm and its DROS description, but I have been through many courts and don't believe this would affect my decision.

How can I convince them that I have a right to carry a legal pistol that happens to be off-roster and converted from an SSE? Or do I have that right? People here seemed to know but it didn't pan out in reality. No hard feels, no one claimed to be a lawyer and it makes no sense that three little letters on a form would nix my deal.....what to do?

That complies with the law but he could get in trouble with his department for doing that. Best to not even mention it really but still do it.

PPTs are still exempt from the certified list.

No. Your cousin would not be the actual buyer/transferee for the 4473, so it would be making a false statement on a Federal Document. It would have to be for a firearm that is already owned. If the person transfers it to themselves using their exemption so that it can then be transferred to you, it would not be legal.

They have a Kriss Vector Pistol in stock, as well as a couple AR Pistols in there, so they are probably doing it. I haven't tried to buy a SSE there, so maybe they are LEO only.

Those pistols meet the minimum length requirement for SSE and only need the magwell blocked. River City doesn't do pistols that require a barrel insert or replacement barrel, so no VP9, Gen 4 Glocks, or other popular SSE pistols.

I suspect it would be a matter of intent. If he bought something and didn't like it and then sold it via PPT that would be one thing. Buying something to sell would be another story.
