Received my CCW Permit in the mail today! Pretty quick after turning in the range card. Huge thanks to all that helped along the way, and to those that would always post great info.

    My timeline -

    Initial application - 9/11/20

Initial interview - 1/12/21 (Postponed due to Covid)

    Rescheduled interview - 4/20/21

    Received the call - 6/2/21

    Class - 6/9/21 (43 days in background)

    Qualification - 6/11/21

Turned in Range Card - 6/11/21

    Permit received - 6/18/21 (7 days later)

In total - 9 months and 1 week from app to permit received. Not bad at all considering 3 months of that was due to the Covid postpone. Huge thanks as well to the SB County CCW unit.

      Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

The Sheriff leaving could get scary. I see an LA Sheriff wanting to throw his hat in the ring??

Could this jeopardize anyone in process already, or just the broader future of CCW issuance?

                    I'm a real boy!

                    Greetings and salutations!

As you may recall from a few posts ago, I turned in my range qualification card on Monday morning, 6/14/21. This afternoon in the mail I received the self-addressed envelope that we prepared in our CCW class at the Sheriffs Station. Inside was this:

And so ends this leg of my journey. I will continue to train, practice, and learn not only the art of self-defense but the psychology, theology, and discipline involved with this great responsibility.

                    Here's the recap:

12/05/2020 - Submitted the online application at the San Bernardino County Sheriff CCW website.

12/11/2020 - First email notification that my initial interview had been scheduled for 3/17/2021

12/16/2020-03/16/2021 - Received email reminders every five days regarding my initial CCW interview.

03/17/2021 - Initial CCW interview with a very affable detective. Turned in all requested paperwork, paid initial fees ($119 and $31.60), fingerprinted, background check started.

05/12/2021 - Received a call from a detective at the Sheriff Dept. to tell me that my CCW class has been scheduled for 06/02/2021. Background check passed, bring $203.40 money order.

06/02/2021 - Attended CCW class at Sheriff station. We were told we had thirty days to qualify at the range and turn in our range cards, in person was best rather than by mail.

06/11/2021 - Shot my range qualification, passed.

06/14/2021 - Delivered my CCW Proficiency range card to the SBCSD station.

06/18/2021 - Received my CA CCW license card in the mail.

Total fees: $354 to the county plus miscellaneous minor fees for necessary documents, $35 range fee for the qualification, $389 altogether.

Total time: 6 months, one week, and six days.

Total travel: Three trips to the Sheriff station (150 miles for three round trips), one trip to the range (28 miles round trip), 178 miles altogether.

There you have it. Next is securing some CCW insurance. I think I've decided on a plan, just a little more research. I'm having that discussion in another forum.

You may have noticed, I got mine in the mail today too. I'm glad I got this done before Sheriff McMahon retired. I hope his successor is as 2A friendly as the rest of his department. God bless them all, and God bless you too.

All of the officers, the Sheriff, his second in command, etc, who spoke to us in class were very pro-2A. We were told the whole department wanted to get as many law-abiding citizens their CCW permits as possible. Hopefully someone in the ranks will move up rather than hiring someone from the outside. Just the same, I'm really glad mine came in the mail today. Wishing you all the best.

I suspect Sheriff McMahon has planned ahead and has a Deputy that he will recommend to the Board of Supervisors as his replacement....that is common with mid-term retirements. I'd be really surprised if an outsider were appointed.

As far as CCW goes, yes, a change is always a concern. But any incoming Sheriff will eventually need to go on the ballot for the position, and a candidate that is anti-CCW would be facing 10,000 to 15,000 CCW holders that vote for pro-CCW Sheriffs. Perhaps that is why McMahon trounced his opponents.

CCW permit holders seem to realize that losing a CCW permit is likely worse than never having had one and will vote and support candidates accordingly.

                              Congrats!

The timeline was amazing given the COVID. Hats off to the Sheriff and CCW staff for keeping things going as well as they did...not an easy feat.

The money spent so far is just a down payment. CCW insurance, holsters, belts, practice ammo, and range fees will equal or likely exceed that every year! Personal security is unfortunately not inexpensive these days, but worth it.

You may have noticed, I got mine in the mail today too. I'm glad I got this done before Sheriff McMahon retired. I hope his successor is as 2A friendly as the rest of his department. God bless them all, and God bless you too.

                                Thank you for your indulgence,
