Hi,
The class size was reduced capacity because of the covid protocols. Normally there would be 100+ or so. The Sheriff was very apologetic because the process had slowed down so much. They are working hard to get back up to speed. Sheriff McMahon said there are 11,000 permits in the county right now and they hope to reach 20,000 by this time next year. Pretty cool.
Thank you for your indulgence,

On requal day, a guy actually ran out of ammo short of his required shots due to at least 4 or maybe 5 failure to fire rounds! His ammo was in a Tupperware-type
container and I suspect they were reloads. Range staff tried a few rounds but could not get them to fire, so they had him dump his mags. The guy begged for some loaner ammo and was obliged somewhere down the line and finished up.
Folks, don't go to quals or requals with reloads or cheap ammo, and make sure to bring enough...I seem to recall there was a SBSD recommendation for 30 rounds per firearm...I don't know if that is still the case.

Hi,
Absolutely true.

We were told in class last week that to qualify we will shoot ten rounds per pistol, five rounds followed by a magazine change, then five more rounds.
Still, I'm going to follow advice from Mrs. 38Special and take a box for both of my pistols.

I am well aware of the class size reduction. You missed my point that there were more woman in that class then there were a few years ago.Hi,

So I submitted the application online and was given multiple options for interview date/time in September. I chose one and clicked. Is there supporsed to be some sort of follow up email confirming the interview date? I haven't recieved any communication. TIA.Comment

Forgive me.
Hi,
Oops.
But yes, I did notice the difference in the female population. I'm trying to encourage Mrs. BassCliff to get her CCW. Wish me luck. And let me know of any magic words I can use.

Went to the 10 am session at Prado to qualify this morning (class at SBSD was June 9th). Everything went nice and smooth. There were only 8 ppl in the session. With the quick class session at Prado to pre-fill out the range cards + the actual qualification, we were in and out in about 40 minutes.
Dropped my range card off at the Sheriff’s Department right after.Last edited by ArmyVet1; 06-11-2021, 5:11 PM.Comment

Encourage but don't push her.
Maybe give her the option to pick up a firearm that's just for her.Mrs 38Special

Hi,
Thank you.
She loves the CW9. That's "her" pistol, it fits her, and she shoots it OK. I can't register it to her because she doesn't have her FSC yet. She doesn't practice as much as she should. Now that she has something to put on her nightstand she thinks she's good to go. I'll be gentle. She's agreed to go with me to another training session in a couple of weeks. I'll be satisfied with that for now.
I'd love to let her pick out one for herself. She just doesn't want to put in the research. I had to. She doesn't want to spend the money. I'm just glad she likes the one I bought for her.
OK, I'll quick whining now.
Thanks for your counsel.

Greetings!
I did not get to pick my date. After filling out the online application the appointment date was emailed to me. I got a reminder email about every five days until my initial interview. Some would call that SPAM, but I didn't mind.
Ack! I was at the 4pm session this afternoon. I'll drop off my range card on Monday. There were only five of us and two of them were from my class on 6/2/21. The other two were from the 6/9 class. Prado is a nice place, been there a couple of times.Went to the 10 am session at Prado to qualify this morning (class at SBSD was June 9th). Everything went nice and smooth. Dropped my range card off at the Sheriff’s Department right after.
First we had a session to talk about range safety and what was required of us to pass. It was hot in this room. I'm glad this part didn't take too long.
Then we made our way over to the pistol range where the RSO checked serial numbers, hung new targets, then let us shoot five rounds from a couple of mags.
All five of us fit in bay #2.
My mags are loaded, target is ready. We're just waiting to go bang.
I was excited and going to fast. I didn't shoot too well.
But it was good enough to pass! I'll drop this off on Monday.
Then my cert should arrive in about two weeks, the 28th or so. It's been a long, tedious, paperwork filled, expensive, waiting game that's almost over. Thanks for putting up with me.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Not on you, Brother. You wouldn’t be an “ArmyVet” if you didn’t understand “cooperate and graduate”, “in the front, in the middle” , and didn’t have a sense of humor. (There were 8 in the room?)
If the humor was missed, fine. If understanding is an “assumption”, then fine.

Yeah only 8 this morning. I wasn't sure what to expect as far as size of the group, but it was pretty quick.
