An excellent observation. I think Undersheriff Dicus is second in command. He spoke for a couple of minutes in our CCW class too. He seemed legit.

As far as CCW goes, yes, a change is always a concern. But any incoming Sheriff will eventually need to go on the ballot for the position, and a candidate that is anti-CCW would be facing 10,000 to 15,000 CCW holders that vote for pro-CCW Sheriffs. Perhaps that is why McMahon trounced his opponents.

CCW permit holders seem to realize that losing a CCW permit is likely worse than never having had one and will vote and support candidates accordingly.
This is a valid point. The County Sheriff is one of the most important elected offices and usually gets the least total votes in an election cycle. The CCW population in the county, a relatively large voting block (since so few people actually vote for a Sheriff), would certainly be paying attention and be able to swing an election.

The money spent so far is just a down payment. CCW insurance, holsters, belts, practice ammo, and range fees will equal or likely exceed that every year! Personal security is unfortunately not inexpensive these days, but worth it.
Thank you kindly. I don't know if you saw earlier, I've documented my entire CCW journey in another forum ( https://www.xdtalk.com/threads/bassc.../#post-7951585 ) so as to let others know what's required, what to expect, how long it might take, the theology and philosophy, and my noob ramblings on the subject, etc. I'm pretty amazed that it took only six and a half months from online application to receiving my CCW card in the mail. I partake in training sessions and practice sessions at various ranges, ammo hunting and gathering, lots of dry fire laser practice, etc. I've just bought my fifth holster and I still haven't found "the one". I've also bought protection plans from two different CCW insurance outfits to get adequate and overlapping coverage for me and my family. Sure, it's not cheap but it's FUN and worth it to be able to protect myself and my family.

Amen and amen! And thank you for your service.

        Thank you for your indulgence,

Just received the call to schedule the safety course/qualification. It seems they are a combined effort, which is nice. Do I need to qualify all my listed firearms then and there? I have a g19 incoming, but it won't arrive in time.

You have to qualify with every firearm you want to list on your CCW.

Did they demand a specific date for qualification, or do you have a range of time to complete? Will your G19 arrive within the window (including 10-day wait and test run at the range)?

Work the problem from the date of receipt of the gun versus the deadline for completion of trading (qualification). If it won’t work out, shoot what you got and get the license.

If allowed, modify to add, later.

Why did you wait till the last minute to get a new gun?
When did you submit your application?

No, that’s why I asked the question about process in SB County.

In my issuing county, there is a 6-month window from date of approval to date of application completion. Using this window has been an effective strategy for folks who, for whatever reason (firearms availability, lack of money, vacation/business, etc.), needed to delay qualification. This is important to us because the IA restricts additions/modifications to renewals, so we need to get the guns we want on the initial license….very much what the poster is inquiring about.

While most applicants want to complete as quickly as possible and get issued, however, if SB County has a similar policy, the poster could have some time to get the new gun in play.

                      Best.

He has had ample time to get any new firearms.
Since Covid the process has been much longer than the normal processing time. I think his interview was 60 days ago.

Does anyone knows what's going on with the SBSO CCW renewal process?? I submitted ALL my renewal papers including range qualification on 04/29/2021 and still haven't received my new CCW ID. I haven't receive any letter. I called on 06/10 and was told to wait for maybe two more weeks. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

That's weird. I haven't heard but one other person say it was taking long. Most have been done in a month or less.

                            Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Yep, I am in the same boat. I did my range requalification May 21st, I turned in my paper work to the sheriff's office May 25th. Nottin yet. I did do a gun swap, so maybe that slows things down. July 1st, I am toast.

Does your current CCW expire July 1st?
I predict it will be in your mailbox June 30th...
With a firearm addition mine arrived about a month after I dropped off my range card. Was in my PO Box the day before my expiration date.
