    Agreed!
If someone can't dedicate the time to do the zoom maybe they don't need to muck-up the process.

One has to know their priorities.

Calm down. I have no intention of mucking the process. I wanted to plan ahead and take a day off work for the class but since they move to zoom meetings, wasn't sure how much info was covered.

        Interview was short and pleasant

I arrived at the sheriff's station right on time. I was a little concerned because there was a fender bender on the freeway and construction on the surface streets I did not count on. Good thing I like to leave a little extra time just in case.

I checked in at the receptionist area and was told to go on over to the employee services area and sign in. I picked up another form to fill out while I waited for my name to be called for my interview. I was wondering why I had to fill out another form with exactly the same information that was on all the other forms. I guess everyone wants a little piece of me.

The actual interview was done by, I'm assuming by the way he was dressed, a detective sergeant wearing a sharp black shirt and a bright green polka dot tie. I'd forgotten it was St. Patrick's Day. He was a pleasant and jovial fellow who seemed younger than my two older daughters. He seemed pleased that I had all my paperwork in order. We did the interview right there at one of the windows in this office. He did not ask a lot of questions and the ones he did were general small talk kind of questions. For the most part he went over all my paperwork, clarifying a couple of things and correcting a couple of other things. In my "general cause" statement he mentioned that this part was excellent (self and family protection) but that part was not compelling (talking about expensive musical equipment I carry in my pickup). He explained that property theft is not a reason for deadly force. I told him I understood that I needed an "immanent threat" and he said that would all be covered in the training class.

EDIT: Just because I like pictures, here's one that was posted to the SBSD Facebook page showing the cubicle farm in the lobby where I did all my paperwork, interview, and fingerprinting. I did not meet these fine officers but my business was conducted at the windows behind that glass partition.

After going through my paperwork and a few signatures the officer sent me back out to the lobby to wait my turn for the fingerprint machine. A few minutes later a nice female officer brought me to the back, asked me to take off my mask for a picture, then proceeded to take all my fingerprints using an electronic imaging machine that was a bit finicky. We made small talk while she held my hand and got the proper images. When the officer was done with my fingerprints she said to head on home and wait for the call. It's going to be months because of the massive backlog in applications. It took almost four months just to get this appointment so I suspect it will be just as long before I hear of the results of my FBI background check. Then, hopefully, I'll be able to schedule their training class and range time, pay the rest of my fees, and eventually get my permit in the mail. I'll try hard to convince them that I'm not a menace to society. Wish me luck.

        Thank you for your indulgence,

          Congrats!
The hard part is over! The Interview makes most people nervous.
Now you have time to firm up your firearm choices.
Line up holsters for after you get your CCW.
Get a small gunsafe/lockbox for your vehicle.

I have this Hornady lockbox that I use to transport our pistols. It has a cable to secure it to the chassis. Quick-access gun safes for your car are a bit pricey. In the meantime, this is CA approved.

Mrs. BassCliff and I have been taking training sessions at least once a month since August. My instructor considers me one of his "advanced" students. I don't know about that. We have been training with holsters but this Saturday's session, he says, will be real "Gunfighting 101". Multiple targets and moving between cover should be fun.

I have a couple of holsters, an Alien Gear OWB and a Relentless Tactical AIWB.

My instructor is really into Kydex. I'm hoping he doesn't look at me funny at my choice of a leather IWB. It's more comfortable but the re-holster is a little trickier.

I've got both the XD9 and the CW9 listed on my application. The next pistol I'd like to get would be a bit to big to carry concealed (full size 1911 in .45) so I'll stick with these for now. The interviewing officer was kind enough to explain that, when Mrs. BassCliff applies, we can list each others registered weapons on each other's CCW permits so that, in theory, we'd have a choice of up to six firearms we could each carry. But I'm getting way ahead of things. I will be surprised if I hear back from the SBSD by July. It might take longer. I'll be patient.

Thanks for your insights. This old noob needs all the help he can get.

You carry what makes you happy not the instructor!!

Yes that lockbox works fine as line as it is tethered to the vehicle.
I use a Gunvault with the cable around the seat frame.

When the Misses applies she needs to have at least one listed firearm in HER name. Looked for the actual info but didn't see it real fast so double check that when it is her turn.

I think you misunderstood what the deputy was saying.

Like Mrs Special said when Mrs Cliff applys for her permit she will need at least one handgun registered to her. If she only has the one handgun she could list up to two of your handguns on her permit.

What some married couples have done is list each others EDC on their permits. This would allow one of the spouses hand off their firearm to the other if they needed to. But, the total number of handguns is still only 3 that either one of you could carry.

                Example:
Your EDC is the XD9, hers is the XYZ. You both list the XD9 and the XYZ on your permits. If while in public you feel you need to give her your gun for safe keeping, you could give her your XD9 and she could legally keep it loaded and concealed on her body until you get back.
                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Ahhh I over looked the 6 guns part. My apologies.
Morrcarr67 is correct you can each list 3 guns. They can be a mix of his and hers BUT you each can only carry what is on YOUR CCW.

Thank you gentlemen. It seems that I mis-heard and/or misunderstood the officer's explanation. Thanks for clarifying. I'm hoping that Mrs. BassCliff will want to carry eventually. She has nothing registered to her yet but it's good to know that we can "share" a few things.
