All great info, Thank you! I was specifically wondering about the Apex low-profile LCI, so that answers that.

Keep in mind that there really is no written "standard" and there are more than one person doing the inspections. One deputy/officer may allow something to pass that another may fail.
The Shield LCI isn't a "safety," does not impact the operation, and still provides tactile feedback that it is loaded. Worst case, take your original LCI and a pin punch. If there's an issue, ask if you can correct it (don't lose the spring!)
The only thing that we've heard confirmed failures for have been actual malfunctioning guns and triggers <3lbs.- Rich

Excellent info, and all makes sense. I take it changing the LCI out after it is inspected and passed is a big no-no as well?Keep in mind that there really is no written "standard" and there are more than one person doing the inspections. I honestly don't see it as a problem, unless the inspector indicates a problem and allows you to change it out. In that case, I would absolutely carry as-inspected.
After inspection, any changes made would only be a potential issue should you be involved in a defensive shooting.
You will need to be able to intelligently articulate to your attorney what was done, why it was done, and who did it if it is more involved than routine maintenance/spring replacement.
Massad Ayoob is frequently quoted due to his advice that there be no modifications from factory, but he has not been able to produce ONE single court case where modifications were an issue that changed the outcome of the case.
Even in the infamous Arizona case where the officer had an AR dust cover that said "YOU'RE F***ED", that fact was ruled irrelevant and inadmissible by the trial judge. The media made a big deal about it, but it made no difference in the case.
That said, "cute" graphics, particularly "vigilante" or zombie/biohazard type images on grips and rear slide covers are probably best left on the range toys, simply because it will make it more difficult for your attorney to defend you if the prosecutor... or the plaintiff's attorney in the civil trial... can paint you as a "crazy gun nut," "vigilante," or "wannabe militia member"
The civil trial is what we really have to worry about. A good shoot is a good shoot, and in a good shoot, charges are unlikely. Dirtbags have families, who either refuse to believe that they are dirtbags, or who are dirtbags themselves and see the "loss" of their family member as a lottery ticket.- Rich

Excellent post. I am not a big gun mod guy personally, other than the usual sights. However, the stock LCI on the shield has had a tendency to snag. Thanks again for all the information.Comment

Ya... Like I said, I would (and did) just take it as-is, and if it's a problem, offer to switch it out.
We had a guy with a "Punisher" Glock slide cover. The instructor would not have denied it, but he asked if it was really a good idea, and the guy was allowed to change it out right there.- Rich

All the forms and instructions you need can be found here.

What is with the Employment History and Residence History forms being required as part of an application. I thought the only application that can be required is the one approved by the Attorney General.
Penal Code Section 26175
It seem that the additional forms are far beyond any that could be needed to clarify or interpret the information requested on the Standard Application.(g) An applicant shall not be required to complete any additional application or form for a license, or to provide any information other than that necessary to complete the standard application form described in subdivision (a), except to clarify or interpret information provided by the applicant on the standard application form.Comment

Their interpretation of the law is different from ours. To a certain extant it is their house their rules, Good news is they have a very low denial rate. What is with the Employment History and Residence History forms being required as part of an application. Anybody heard from them lately? I had a 1/26/18 interview, and have heard nothing yet. I had a small delay with my employer submitting a letter back to them, but it has been confirmed sent, and they should have gotten that back 2 weeks ago.
Also how are you notified of either the approval or denial? Is it a call either way, or one a call & one a letter in the mail?
ThanksComment

Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.
