any new applicants out there, im curious on the current wait time until first interview

A friend of mine missed his interview date in late October. His rescheduled date is for mid May.

Good renewal class today.
Off the top of my head I'd say there were easily 80+
4 rows of tables in the front of the room, I think 6 in the back, probably 10+ in each row.

Instructor was good, clear, covered more advanced things, this is not a repeat of the initial CCW class, he assumes that we've all retained that.
Class was good. No blowhards questioning everything, good questions, we got out a bit early.

No kidding... I wasn't feeling well and had to make a stop at Denny's on the way to and from the range.

Not too often I'm concerned about guns locked in my trunk.
I was that night.

But by April it'll be DST again so it should be light until 7 or so. IIRC, I was on the freeway halfway home by 7:30 so he should be good.

I scheduled my 5th renewal class for March. Now, as to modifications. Should that be arranged before the class takes place?

After the class and when you turn in your renewal packet, they will give you the available date/times to do modifications.

It's recommended that the application is complete before you attend the class.
However, it is not needed and they do not accept it at the renewal class.

The only thing you need is your CA DL and your renewal class payment ($25.00 money order).

After you complete the renewal class, you can go to the Sheriff HQ and submit your renewal application with payment ($52.00 + $38.00 money orders).
No appointment is needed (walk in and drop off).
At this time, you can inquiry about (modifications) add/drop handguns to your permit and they will provide you with eligible dates to go to the Sheriff range to do this.
Modification range date is no cost and just requires you to bring the handguns you want added and ammo.

I turned in my renewal packet on T-minus-87 days to expiration.
I had already scheduled my class early (as you did). When I turned in my renewal paperwork, she gave me the range schedule and a range card... just walk in any of those dates, no appointment needed.

So hypothetical, you've scheduled your class for March 15. Your expiration is April 15, so you can turn in your renewal application on January 15.
You can go to the range to qualify with the modifications any time between January 15 and April 15... obviously the sooner the better, they probably won't process your renewal until they receive your range card (since you inform them at the renewal "interview" that you want to make a modification)... dunno what would happen if you are up against expiration and they haven't received your range card.

Yes, get it out of the way as soon as convenient.

Turn in your renewal paperwork. Get any range/firearm modification done. Go to class. Get your new CCW that night if you are near your expiration date or get it in the mail near your expiration date.
