Interview was super easy. Photoed, Fingerprinted and submitted documents. The detective did not even ask for "good cause" and was super nice.

Hope hear back from them soon.
Probably didn't ask because they were happy with your GC that you listed when you filled out the application online.

It seems like things have been running pretty smooth lately and turn around time for the background check has been in the 4-5 weeks range.

    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I was told by the detective that they have about 150+ backlog to process. But they are trying to have the permit issued asap. Hope I'll hear back from them soon.

That's crazy. I wonder what happened? Maybe Xavier is holding them back like Kamala did before she left.

I have seen a number of reports of very short return times.

My interview was 12-1-17 - They said depending on what the livescan came back with, the background would take about 2 months.

Seems weird how each county does things different. Up here in Lassen you fill out your application with your Just cause statement and they review it and send you a letter to proceed if acceptable to take a CCW class, then you bring in your completion certificate and they tell you to go schedule your Live Scan. After your bring that in you wait till it comes back and then they call you for your interview and a week of so later you pick up your license.
So basically once they review your app for just cause you are pre-qualified unless your background comes back with a problem or you blow it in your interview. Whole process takes about 3 months.

SBSD chooses to not have people go to the expense of a 'CCW class' before they pass the interview and Live Scan process.

Either way if you do not pass the Live Scan or complete the CCW Class you don't get a license. In our county if they accept your Reasonable Just Cause your good to go and the interview at the end is just to go over your application to make sure nothing has changed. Very few law abiding folks get refused.

Prior to the livescan, they have no way of knowing if you have any disqualifying issues.
In San Bernardino County, by the time you move to Livescan, your "good cause" has been approved and there has been nothing in the interview that has tipped them off indicating that there may be a problem.

The difference is, in your case, you pay for instruction before background, when there is still a chance that you may be denied. In our case, we take our class from the county itself, and don't pay the $100 until after we receive our final approval.

Your way they are still out the time & money for training BEFORE they are approved.

Overall based on these recent posts it still looks like about a 13 month process which is exactly what mine was a year ago.

I have my CCW interview coming up in 2 months and was wondering about the training that is required before receiving my permit.
"Per Penal Code section 26165, it is now a DOJ requirement that CCW permit applicants attend
a specified course of training prior to the issuance of a new or renewal permit."
I was wondering if it is just required to only take the class provided by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office, or are there other classes I need to take prior to this. If so could I get any recommendations, even if its not required because I know it is still a good idea to get proper training.

SBCS Dept. provides all the training and range qualifications required for CA CCW.
