Well I am in the Big Bear area, outside city limits.

You'll like it here, if I have to live in SoCal I can't think of anywhere else I'd like better. You'll find the community pretty much on the same page as most of us, people are well armed and protective of each other's places since a lot of folks are part timers and depend on the locals to keep an eye on their places. As far as CCW goes, as soon as you know it's for sure go ahead and get an interview date because the whole process while fairly simple can eat up a year or so. That might be significantly less now... but best be on your game to minimize time between permits. Your Ventura CCW is probably good for 90 days after your move so you might be able to keep the downtime to a minimum if you apply ASAP after your decision. It will require a few trips "off the hill" (about 4-5 in total) so be prepared especially during the winter months to leave early and get home late. Snow and rock slides can really put a hitch in your giddy-up and you don't want to miss or be late for any appointments. The department is very CCW friendly so as long as your ducks are line up you'll have no issues.

One for your interview and one for class.
Not sure why you had to do 4-5.

You are correct... I was thinking of my renewal coupled with an address change I had last year, then changing a gun on the permit... All said it was 4-5 trips but as long as you get your stuff in order it could be as few as two trips for a fresh application.

Sorry if its a dumb question, but for the postal money orders do we write to "SBSD" or "San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department"? Just want to be sure

Pack lots of patience, water, food, and a well organized range bag.

Can I add multiple handguns at once onto my CCW when I apply for it, or do I have to do it one at a time? Also, is "protecting my life and the lives of my family" a good enough justification to put down on my application?
                  Thanks in advance.

You can list 3 guns on your permit. You must qualify with all the guns listed on your permit.

SD is good cause. They want a nice paragraph as to why you feel you need to defend yourself and your family.

                    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

I have a box that kind of looks like a tackle box. All 3 guns and ammo in one box.

Mentioning AB 109 and Prop 47 etc. as a reason for feeling your family needs protection seems to go over well with SBSD.

OK, this has been probably been asked and answered dozens of times before, but should I call?
I submitted my renewal paperwork at the earliest opportunity on 6/3/19.
Took the class 5 weeks ago on 7/16/19...
                                NO weapons changes.
I emailed sbcsd CCW to inquire about the status of my renewal permit a week ago on 8/14/19.
No response to my email, and still no new permit has arrived. Everywhere on their new CCW FAQs page is *DO NOT CALL* !
Yet my current permit expires in nine days 9/1/19, and with no response to my email in over a week, I feel I need to call their office if it doesn't arrive tomorrow. We have had mail theft in our area in the past and that has me wondering and anxious about where my permit is? Was it ever mailed? What's the status?
Are they currently that backed up on issuing renewals, and why no response to an email in over a week?
