You contact CGF and we put you in touch with the Sacramento "fixer/wolf" who has been doing excellent work on the few appeals we've seen.

Note that the limited number of denials we've seen have significant weirdness to them but that has not lead to ultimate denials when appealed by competent counsel.

Wanted to share some good news on the how long the approval process is going (at least for me). Submitted my initial application & had the interview on 2/23 and just got my approval letter from Amber in the mail today. The detective who did my interview said that the board would be meeting the following week so that probably helped minimize the delay. I've got my 16 hour training class this weekend with Wes (really looking forward to it) and will do the LiveScan next week. Hopefully that will get processed quickly as well. Life is good. Keep up the good fight guys.

I'm new to this forum. It seems there's conflicting info (not necessarily here) about acceptable GC statements for Sacramento County these days. Simple "I wish to carry for self defense" vs more personalized and complicated statements. My initial appointment/interview for turning in my application is later this month, and I would appreciate further info on the question of just how specific I need to make ny GC statement. The fact that SSD requires a separate letter instead of writing it on the form would seem to indicate that they want something detailed, but this is conjecture only. If there's anyone with first hand knowledge of the current criteria for GC in Sacramento County who would like to clue me in, either in the thread or via PM, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

"I wish to acquire a license to carry a handgun for the purpose of self defense".

Nothing else is needed. It says flat out on the sheriff's CCW page that self defense is good cause.

I referenced the letter in the GC statement area. Here's a sample that has worked.

              Date

              Amber M. Wong, Sr. SRS
              Special Investigations/Intelligence Bureau
              711 G Street, Room 306

RE: Statement for Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW) Application.

              Dear Ms. Wong:

Pursuant to the CCW application requirements, please find below my statement for the reason I am submitting a CCW application:

I wish to acquire a permit to carry a handgun for the purpose of self defense.

If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to call me.

              Sincerely,

                Heck, mine looked like this:

                Good Cause Statement

I wish to carry a firearm to defend myself and my family.

                signed and dated.

I got my permit December of 2010. The simple statement has been sucsessful hundreds of times.

So it's best not to get into specifics? I used to be a police officer, and on 2 separate occasions, I had spotted individuals that I had arrested, but thankfully they did not spot me. I have a different job now, and at times, I can be couriering tens of thousands of dollars in cash on my person. It doesn't help that all the employees at my company knows I'm the one for carrying cash. And it certainly doesn't help that half of said employees are former gangbangers and felons. Although both of these reasons fall under self defense, I just wasn't sure if they would improve or hinder my chances of getting approved.

Just, self defense. Your reasons are your own. Self defense is sufficient.

Thanks; I appreciate the replies. Sounds pretty straightforward.

                        Over-thinking it causes two problems.

                        1. You open up lines of unnecessary inquiry.

                        2. You make available facts you don't need to in disclosable public records.

Use the examples above and enjoy your right to carry.

Just be sure to tell your instructor, before he prints your certificate, that you want your gun listed with both calibers. It's totally doable but, not very common so, he won't know to do it unless you mention it.
                          Thanks, I'll do that.

My good cause was copied from the CCW initiative website which will tell you everything you need to know. Good luck! (although you don't need it anymore in Sac County)

Guys, I just got done taking the 16 hour CCW class from Wes last weekend and I have to say it was VERY educational, fun, and worthwhile. I HIGHLY recommend his class to anyone looking for CCW or other firearms related training. Wes is a nice guy, has great stories that tie into the material, and tries his best to make sure everyone is safe and well informed.

Thanks Wes, Ill be calling for a private lesson sometime in the future.
