FINALLY the wait is almost over. I got my final approval letter yesterday and I have my issuance appt next tuesday. Hang in there guys, it is a long process but it is a fight for our rights, our beliefs and our very freedom.

New to the forums as a member but I have been using them for information quite often.

My question is pertaining to Sac County CCW. I have a misdemeanor from the age of 19, I am now 37. Since my bad selection of friends in 1993 I changed my life. I joined the US Navy and still serve active for the last 15 years. My record other than the 1993 "Wake up Call" is spotless, my military record is rock solid. I contacted the court from the county (not Sac) that I got into trouble with and then said I can petition for a Dismissal now (make a difference). So with so much time since and with actual life change proof should I worry/will it be an issue have the 1 misdemeanor?

Jim Cooper: "Any citizen who applies for a concealed weapon permit, who has not been convicted of a felony, and meets mandatory training requirements, shall be issued a CCW including for self protection. In 2008 under the current administration, the Sheriff's Department only issued 6 permits with a population of 1.3 million people. It is my position that law abiding citizens have the right to defend themselves and their family. I will streamline the process to eliminate the current backlog of applications."

Ghostrider... I'd say to get your CCW appointment. See what it'll cost for a dismissal of the misdemeanor. It might not make a huge difference as you'd have to disclose the arrest and disposition. IMHO, your service with the USN for the past 15 years would be more of an example of your good moral character. The fact that you're still active duty might make things more interesting for you in that the Navy could PCS you somewhere else... so while you may have lived here for a while, the SSD may consider you a temporary resident...

Worst case, you apply, get denied, appeal, get denied... and you're just out $20.

CSDGuy, I am originally from Sac, and own my home here. My appointment is in June, set it back in January. When I did my rough of my application is when I thought is this going to be an issue. I contacted Alameda and they had me DL a form, fill it out, mail it in, and said once received I will get a court date 30-45 days out. They said it will show charged/not guilty/dismissed vice charged/no contest/convicted. I hope and believe that my military record should speak for itself, but I need a temp check from you guys. I don't PCS for 2 years and with the military cut backs with money and such, I won't be PCS'ing out of state.

I suspect that your military record really should speak for itself. The only concern I'd have is that you are due to PCS in 2 years. That could be to a different County and therefore, have to go through another process... depending upon how legal matters go. As I said before, worst case is that you're out $20. Best case is that you'll get to spend about $3-400 more.

If you have the opportunity to dismiss that conviction, I'd say to go ahead and do it. At worst it'll do nothing for you. At best... well, you won't have to put down the conviction for (most) job applications that require all convictions be listed after you separate from service.

$20, no wings for that week, well worth it!
If I PCS at all so far this year word has already been put out and people are on hold and told no PCS'ing unless they fill a crit job.
                        Thanks for the advice.

The S.O. won't care about you being active duty and when you are PCS'ing. I had CCW's in two different counties that I lived in while on active duty, and it was never a question when I was going to PCS. I've known plenty of peeps on AD that have had CCW's in Cali. And your military service will squash that misd. charge. Don't trip about it and go get that piece of parchment.

Each County sets their own requirements... and they may view a Military Member, even if at a "permanent" station, as a temporary resident of that County. I also know that there are AD military that have CCWs. Sacramento has gone weird over the past year (compared to what it used to be) and so I think it's a GREAT idea that ghostrider2 apply. What's the worst thing? Denial... and out $20. And perhaps that may give or add some standing to sue and start knocking on that policy door...
