    Be cool.

I kind of understand his concerns. Applied same time and am in same position. Am just waiting for the new Mayor or Council to put a kibosh on the whole process. Yes the Sheriff is a good man and very supportive of 2a, but the anti's will keep working until they find a way around him.

Do Sac Mayor and Council have any power over Sac County Sheriff? I thought they are completely independent from each other.

They are. The City has no direct control over the Sheriff. However, once Steinberg gets in office, you will see an effort to simply ban firearms from the city limits.

You will also see him try to influence his D pals on the Sac County Board of Supervisors who control the Sheriff's budget.

The county has already haranged Jones about spending money for CCW personel. And yes, the City of Sacramento has input to that process.

I know Steinberg, he is good on many issues but is rabidly anti 2a.

Think about it for a second...NONE of that happened. Although the Sac Bee ran a number of hit pieces to give Ami Bera an edge in the primary, it's been pretty well documented that budget priorities reduced funds to support the CCW operation in May/June. Issuance appointments for July were then put in place. But a past work slow down will continue to delay notification of DOJ reporting.

And, as noted above, the Peruta ruling doesn't go to the issue of the Sac Sheriff's GC for issuance. It's never been "2A right"; it's been "Self-Defense", and that started before the original Peruta ruling.

Mayor? City Council? They are irrelevant to the Sheriff.

Not possible under current law, but I'm sure his buddies in the legislature will be glad to "fix" that.

Probably, but I'm trying to envision the nuts and bolts of exactly how that would play out. Can they set a limit on certain categories like that? Or do you think it might be more along the lines of quid pro quo if the sheriff (probably not Jones--more likely his successor) goes along with their agenda?

I must be missing something. Please explain the Mayor's input into the Sheriff's use of funds for LTC.

Are you a resident of Sacramento, I am. Have also met Steinberg and know his intentions. If you wish to say....no never....that is your right.

I don't really care if you know him, met him, live in the city, or whatever. I simply want you to explain how the mayor is supposedly part of the Sheriff's budgetary process. Can you do that?

So...you specifically contend that the Mayor of Sacramento will withhold funds from the part of the *County* budget that goes to the Sheriff's Department. Got it. Yep.

It was clear, but you were not. You seemed to imply some defined role for the mayor in the county budgetary process. When questioned, you fell back on a post by someone other than you that discussed a less formal mode of influence. Your statement about Steinberg having by input sounded like something more precise, even codified. But okay, maybe I misinterpreted your meaning.
