I received a very short response just stating that the May Issuance Appointments have been released and are available for scheduling. I missed them again I guess.

My renewal timeline went like this:

        Qualification: 4/5/17
        Submitted my renewal application: 4/6/17
        Approved: 4/18/17
        Picked up: 4/20/17

12 days total for my renewal to be approved.

I went 97 days. I know it sucks but you're almost there.

          Best of luck.

            So - just to recap:

December - announcement that the Sheriff is getting a new system, plastic cards and up to 5 guns.

I buy a new gun (+ holster & ammo), go through the 10-day wait, qualify, etc. (approximate cost - $800)

January 19th - submit my mod package with all documentation - pay $14.50 in fees

April 20th - receive denial message. Only 3 guns can be on the permit. I call the unit - can't I take one off and put the new one on? "Not until your next renewal".

Great - my 6 weeks late renewal was last November - so now I get to wait 18 months. I doubt very much they will honor my quals so that $$, time & ammo is wasted - on a gun I can't carry.

Please - no sticking up for this absolutely FUBAR situation. There is no excuse. I know the Sheriff is a good guy. I know he's trying. But this is bullsh*t.

            End rant

Not sure if anyone has covered this yet. Here was the email i got today regarding the modification request i submitted in December:

"This letter is to advise you that your application for issue/renewal of a concealed handgun permit has been denied.

Your application for a concealed handgun permit has been 'denied' for the following reasons:

At the present time only three handguns can be listed. Governor Brown signed a bill that became law January 1, 2017 that authorizes the creation of a CCW ID card. DOJ must first convene a committee to study this issue and recommend a standardized CCW ID card. It is not known what mandated information must be on the new CCW ID card or whether permit holders will be able to list more than three handguns. Your $10.00 modification fee has been refunded.

You may appeal this denial by filing a written petition with the Administrative Captain of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department at the 2101 Hurley Way, Sacramento, CA 95825. You may reach Sheriff's Administration at 916-874-8450. You may also have the option to appeal to the NICS Section at the FBI. Your processing and convenience fees are not refundable."

Looks like the glimmer of hope that i had for a modification (and 5 gun limit) before my renewal is shot

I hope the newbies are learning that you better have the guns you want on your permit at issuance time. I sure wish I would have known that going in.

Thanks for the timeline. I'm getting ready for my renewal and i was worry that it would take more than 45 days to get approval.

                  Thank you.

Well, I finally got my reply back from the Sheriff's Department today!

I had a very good renewal experience. I submitted 4/10, and then received an email 4/20 saying that they as trouble viewing some of my uploaded documents. I resubmitted quickly, and then got my approval message a few hours later. Picked up on the afternoon of 4/20.

I also have a secondary problem. I submitted my application prior to the change of their single-shot policy and was forced to not include my primary carry weapon. Now that their policy has changed it appears that I have no way to modify the application to include it. It is pretty lame that I have to plan on modifying a permit even before it has been issued.

                          Update:
                          Emailed approval on 2/21
                          Picked up CCW 2/23

As for my "secondary problem", I did as suggested and attached a word document with the identifiers of the singe-shot gun and a note of the issue I had at the time of submittle and to check the original range qualification for the cert on the additional gun.

However, none of that mattered. If it isn't on the original application you are S.O.L. No way around it either. I was advised to submit for a modification and " perhaps in 6 months" they will start processing those.
Ugh, this is getting ridiculous..... Modification request was denied.

I was told by a deputy at the time I pick-up my renewal that if I wanted any additional beyond the single-shot gun, which would be my third one, to also include those. I was then told to include a scanned document describing the three that I wanted on the permit if SSD still had yet to implement the increased slots on the permit.

Hell, I would be content with just the one if it was the shield...... This shouldn't be that complicated.

Just got off the phone with SSD and they said tuff luck and don't try to submit another one because they wont process it due to staff shortages.......

Complete run around....... Looks like I'll just wait until my next renewal in 2019 to remedy this.

Has anyone been approved for a new CCW that applied on the new system and had their initial interview in late Jan. 2017 thru present?
