Glad to hear that Sniff will allow either local PD or RCSD it issue.

Can anyone tell me what the psych evaluation entails?

What time do you need to be at the range for qualification 7 or 8 a.m.?

And what classes do you have to be at first?

Classroom instruction happens first. You need to show up to the classroom before 8am. I showed up at 7am and was way too early. I suggest going half hour early. Then the range will be after lunch to qualify.

                • The instructions state that you must have a holster with a backstrap. Deputy Aguirre (now retired) told me that a backstrap is not necessary; it just needs to have some retention / locking device (like a button you push with your finger or thumb).
                • NO SHORTS! You must wear long pants to the range.
                • Be at Ben Clark at 0715. It lasts until about 1600. Bring a lunch / snack.
                • I would definitely bring more than 18 rounds per gun. I would bring 50 per gun just in case you need to try again to qualify.
                • Of course, bring eye and ear protection.

Not true! They personally HATE Serpa style holsters, but you can still qualify with them granted you know how to use them. They don't even look at your holsters. They just want to see if you are comfortable with your weapons system. You can qualify with just about any holster system. As long as you drawing doesn't muzzle the guy next to you.

I just did my second renewal May 6th and I use a 10 dollar uncle mikes OWB that "fits"any gun. I qualified with 4 guns (largest G19 and smallest Ruger LCP) and used the same holster. This is the same holster I have used now 3 times and never had a problem.

I should have updated that. At the class they did NOT require retention holsters. OWB, IWB were good. SERPA style were not allowed at our class. Other retention holsters that use a release activated by your thumb or middle finger were OK.

One guy did have a tactical vest with a holster on the front (crossdraw) They put him all the way to the left side of the range so he didn't swipe anyone.

Just so I don't have to do tons of reading to find the correct answer.... Please refresh my memory. If I get a CCW in Riverside County I can carry anywhere in California... correct?

Correct. Minus the usual federal buildings, and other carve outs.

My psych eval was for Riverside PD CCW. There was 800 something True or False questions (same questions they ask LE applicants), then 30 min in person interview with a psychologist. Then the psychologist made recommendation to RPD on whether I should get a CCW or not based on my answers and interview. It cost $150 cash, non-refundable.

I have my appointment coming up in August and I wanted to see if I can get some help with my good cause statement. I've already drafted it and I talked to Deputy Yezzo aand he said it was good enough. If anyone can help me polish it up, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you. Doesn't sound too difficult for most of us.
