    Got approved finally!

Just wanted to share: I called in December 2015 to get on the list, had my interview October 20, 2016, range qualification and livescan done Nov 4th and got the call April 27, 2017 to pick up my permit. So excited, the process was long and happy to see the light!

Murrieta PD is now issuing CCW by the Chief of Police. Sheriff Sniff fully supports this sort of thing so lobby your local Chief (if you have one)

Regarding the three letters of character..... Does anybody have a sample letter they can post or PM to me. I have people willing to write the letters for me. But I want to know what they should look like. Having a template to get started would be great. Thank you.

Any benefit to taking the instructional course and qualifying before the interview? Will it speed up the process?

I did mine before my original interview and my renewal.

On the original interview it made no difference. The livescan took 8 weeks at that time. Plenty of time to get your training in.

For the renewal I think it's beneficial because the process is faster and it gave me piece of mind to know that I didn't have to get in a class scheduled and done.

Murrieta has not started issuing CCW's. IF they ever do start, it will be 3x the price of Riverside Sheriff and require a psych exam.

Don't count on it. Get in line for Riverside Sheriff.

A point of curiosity for me. Exactly what does the psychological exam entail? Why are some posters worried about it? Besides the cost.

One concern I have is, if MPD does begin issuing will the RCSD require Murrieta residents to apply with MPD or will the applicant have a choice? As it stands now the wait for RCSD is excruciating but definitely achievable for those with a squeaky clean record and a reasonable good cause.

Per the Sheriff's website, you can go through the sheriff even if your local PD issues them.

Hadden said that due to the ease of the process and the way it was streamlined, he would be moving forward with the expedited process.

According to Hadden the city website, www.murrietaca.gov, will be updated with information on how to apply for a CCW permit in the very near future.

Stan Sniff posted on facebook: We encourage local PD's to issue as well to their city residents, but most do not. Murrieta residents will still be able to apply thru either agency.
