It's about half that to do it at the sheriffs range. If you are comfortable with your skills and weapon I would go that way. The class is a few hours and the shooting last a half hour. Not much to it really. If you need the instruction then pay the extra for the training at FTA. They are good at what they do.

I would suggest holding off on taking the course.

Also, taking the course before your interview won't speed up the time it takes to get your permit.

With the current system the qualification and class isn't what's holding people back.
Wait at least until your IA says your file is complete.

Many IA's will not accept training that is more than six months old.

Also, it is common to see interviews rescheduled to earlier dates as time passes.

Patience, play the game and get on with your life while it plays itself out ...

If you're a business owner and are planning on using a business related good cause there is no need to review it. All business related good cause statements have been accepted.

I trained both my wife and daughter. They both qualified earlier this year at Ben Clark, they shot better than some of the guys, Lol. Both were issued permits

Not as unusual as some might think.

Women have fewer bad shooting habits and they actually do what you tell them to do.

Guys often resist tutelage and shoot like cowboys or video game operators...

I'm seeing a lot of posts lately in this thread about the long waits for interview appointments with RCSD. Let me take the opportunity to remind those who are waiting for their date of something that Sleighter already mentioned in the thread.

                  Be ready!

Have all of your ducks in a row before your interview. If you are using your business as part of your GC have a copy of your business license attached. If you carry money to the bank or drive around with valuables then have bank statements or copies of your inventory with you. Make sure you check your application to ensure that everything is complete. Then check it AGAIN!

It takes a lot of time for Deps. Aguirre and Yezzo to keep tracking you down and have you bring only parts of your complete package in at a time. Have it ALL done and ready for the interview. Heck, if you can't get that stuff together in 10 months you may need some remediation on time management.

If you walk in with everything complete and all of your proof/evidence in the package it makes it that much easier for them to process. If they can put all your stuff in a file jacket and put it in the completed pile and move on that is HUGE. If they have to put it in the "incomplete" pile and keep getting back to it then it takes them time to ensure that everything is there. They have to review the whole packet each and every time they add something to it.

You want them to finish your interview, put your packet into the ready/complete pile and move on to the next guy. Make it easier for the CCW unit and you make it easier and faster for the next applicant.

Ten months is a ridiculous amount of time to wait. Even with only two guys manning the department it should only take a month at the most even with the volume of applicants/renewals they handle. As was already said, they are great guys and very helpful. They do their job very well. But processing the incomplete packets is like herding cats and takes them ten times as long to ensure your jacket is complete before sending it to the Lieutenant for processing.

Make their job easier and you streamline the process. Streamline the process and you make it better for EVERYONE who is renewing/applying.

Just a heads up, I called for an appointment on Friday and Dep. Yezzo returned my call this morning. Very pleasant and wanted to know if I had any questions. Asked to schedule appointment and he said he had a cancellation for Aug 24...looks like I got lucky and will only have to wait 9 months.

Welcome to the forum Tj. I'm not with you on the "lucky" thing when you have to wait 10 months. That's a travesty but is definitely not the fault of the hard working deputies manning the office.

I did get some insight on the plight of Deps. Aguirre and Yezzo at my interview on Tuesday. As I mentioned a few posts ago, the unprepared applicants jam up the works big time. There a literally DOZENS of open applications stacked on their wall behind their desks. Now, when you show up without everything you need they have to wait for the rest of your documentation. If you are missing more than one thing then they end up with documents trickling in piece by piece. EVERY time they get one of the missing documents they have to review the ENTIRE file to see what is missing. It jams up the works BIG TIME as evidenced by the ridiculous wait times.

The second issue is the new 6-gun rule from Sheriff Sniff. God Bless that man for opening up the permitting process a bit. But the problem is that so many of the current permit holders are adding 3 more guns to their permit. May I recommend that if you are considering adding the extra 3 guns to your permit that you wait until your renewal to do so.

The deputies at the CCW unit are way more organized than when I first applied for my permit. But I don't care HOW organized you are when you are herding cats, you cannot keep them all in the corral.

Be nice to the deputies. Be nice to the other applicants that are waiting 10 months for their initial interview. Be ready. Wait until renewal to add the extra 3 guns. RCSD is a very fair and CCW friendly. Don't ruin it for the rest of the applicants/renewals.

I would have to agree with Sleighter and TurboS600 about having EVERYTHING that you were asked to bring. This makes things go much smoother. I called for interview in January 2014 and received an April 14 interview. Waits were shorter back then. Not only did I bring everything that they said to bring, I brought stuff that they might ask about and have to bring in later. I hear others talk about how state law does not mandate this or require that. It doesn't matter when I want the CCW. I jump through their hoops and play by the house rules.

I received my call on July 24, 2014 to come pick up my permit. 3 months and 10 days from initial interview to pick up. Unfortunately I was on an Amtrak train coming back from New Mexico with members of our Boy Scout Troop after an 11 day backpacking adventure at Philmont Scout Ranch. Boy did that train seem to move slower after that phone call.

Does anyone have any accurate numbers for permits issued in Riverside county? How about denials? Is there a list of numbers of permit holders in every county in the state? Whatever happened to the numbers Brandon was going to post last Jan.- June? It would be nice to see how Riverside is doing compared to the rest of the counties. Another interesting chart would be the time involved to get a decision but it might be a little hard to compare with the way Riverside makes you wait 6 months to a year to turn in your application and start the process. Here's another question do other counties have the long wait time before you can turn in your application or do they do it differently?

I think Sleighter might keep track of everyone that has posted their timeline. How useful the information is though, only he can answer that.
