The ccw unit is really good with calling you back in a few days to schedule appointments. Heck I even got same day replies with emails I've sent over. These are great guys that are nothing but help. It's really strange that you were singled out and have to attempt this over months and months of calling and leaving messages. Good luck to you.

OH dont get me wrong I am not angry with the CCW unit I understand there is only like 2 guys that run the joint. I am actually happy that I finally got called back. I am disappointed in the almost year long wait but hey like I said I understand. Just gives me time to get my paperwork strait and more range time.

Hey guys. I'm noob here on the site but have owned firearms for a good 10 years or so. I've always been interested in applying for my CCW but I don't have any good causes, except for claiming my constitutional right to carry and for obvious reason, I want to protect myself and my family should it comes down to it.

I don't have a business, don't handle or carry $$ for work, and my life has never been in danger (never held up or targeted - yet). I'm just a plain joe schmo who works in the I.T. industry all my adult life. I do have a secret clearance in the defense industry so I suppose I can get kidnapped for trade secrets lol. But seriously, what has the average Joe used for good cause?

My wife called over three weeks ago with no reply, maybe we should keep calling as well. I got my response in a matter of days.

Welcome to Calguns. If you read through a few of the last pages in this thread you'll get some suggestions and ideas for general good causes and questions to ask yourself to help narrow down what situations you will want to articulate for your good cause.

Been a while since I posted. So I just found out that Riverside Police Department issues LTC. I went on their website and it seems like it might be easier and shorter than going through RSO but you must be a resident of Riverside. Has anyone go through RPD and if so how was the process?? It is time to do this after San Berdu and the scare at the Tyler Mall this evening, how can you spruce up the GC when all you have is self-defense?

Hello from Calimesa, I am new to calguns.net. I called first thing this morning to make my appointment. I had to leave a message and got a call back about a half hour later. My appointment is November 26. Holy cow....

So I have plenty of time to get my "good cause" written and polished, and paperwork filled out. I wanna be as prepared as possible. With the lag time of almost a year it puts a little pressure on me to get it right the first time. So I am hoping you guys that have already been thru the process will be willing to help with some questions I have.

It feels good to have started the process. I have been putting it off far to long. Step 1 - check

OK everyone, since the San Bernardino attack my inbox has been flooded with requests for me to tell people what good cause to use. I HAVEN'T AND WON'T EVER TELL YOU WHAT YOUR GOOD CAUSE IS! You really do need to come up with one on your own. Consider that your first "test" to get your ccw. You need to have the reasoning and maturity to objectively look at your life and decide what situations might merit an armed response.

That said, here's basically the question that you need to ask yourself and answer in your GC: What part of my normal daily, weekly, monthly activities put me at risk? How will a CCW help protect me and my family from those threats?

Consider your work, your hobbies, your volunteer efforts, your church attendance, groups that you're a part of. What do you do that you want to carry for? It doesn't have to be about valuables. Just what situations put you at risk?

Sometimes I'll ask the question this way: If you could only carry a gun 2 days a week/month, etc. when would you most want to carry your gun and why?

Here's what doesn't work (someone correct me if I'm wrong):
                  Self defense
                  Jogging late at night
                  Coyotes/Mountain Lions
Protecting your coworkers, friends, neighbors. (Seriously, if you want to be a hero they'll tell you to fill out an application to become a deputy. Your CCW is for the defense of you and your family)

If you know of other good cause statements that the deputies told you needed to be revised, please PM me and tell me. If you don't share your experiences, nobody can benefit from them.

The deputies in the CCW department are overloaded at the moment. I left a message on Friday and received a call back on Saturday. He came in to handle the messages from the backlog. Unfortunately, I am looking at a November '16 appointment date. So they are seriously under manned at this time ti would appear. Hopefully, they will get some help and can assist with pushing the appointments up.

Sleighter, instead of bogging down your PM's, I will work on a list of my questions and send it off when I have my GC and other questions together. Thank you for assisting other Calgunners.

RPD might have a token process in place for CCWs, or mention of it on the city web site, however they do not actually issue. Think similar to how LAPD can issue, but never really does. Others have called, or gone in, and been told to just apply through RSO. RPD got in some hot water a few years ago, issuing to those with connections, and have since pretty much walked away from any sort of issuing.

Why wouldn't you BIL get one? Does he have a shady past? What would make him any different from the other 98% of people that get approved?

Also, don't count on the 9th. Now that SCOTUS has passed up Friedman and signaled that they aren't interested in any new 2A cases, the 9th is free to slap down Peruta and that'll be that.
