Yay! I finally got the conditional approval after 8 months process, OCSD was pretty awesome!!! Could anyone tell me if a CCW holder receives any extra perks such as No DROS fee when purchasing new firearms etc?
Thank you In advance for your input.

Only perk is you get to carry what you have listed. All other laws still apply. Congrats on the approval. Now more waiting.

You get to go to the front of the line everywhere you go, just state in a loud clear voice, "I have a gun and I am willing to use it".

Seriously, you are exempt from the FSC requirement when buying a gun:

What are the exemptions from the Firearm Safety Certificate requirement? If I already have a Handgun Safety Certificate, do I still need a Firearm Safety Certificate?

Otherwise, IMO it is best to avoid displaying or discussing it unnecessarily as it is not a substitute for a CDL or a Passport...

The CCW serves as secondary ID for the purchase of a handgun.
You are exempt from the FSC requirement.
You are exempt from the firearms handling demonstration.

                Updated Timeline:

Early December 2015 - Requested appointment with OC Sheriff
Mid January 2016 - Hadn't heard anything from OC Sherif requested again
February 2016 - Call and another request for appointment
                3/8/2016 - Appointment set for 7/19/2016
                7/19/2016 - Appointment / Interview
                7/19/2016 - Livescan
                7/24/2016 - Residence Check
                8/22/2016 - Training
                9/7/2016 - Conditional Approval
12/6/2016 - Live Scan results received by OC Sheriff
                1/4/2017 - Email to schedule final appointment/pickup
                1/18/2017 - Pick up!

So overall about 13 months from start. They were having lots of computer/email issues back in December/January of last year, so that delayed the setting of the first interview/appointment. Without those errors it was about an eleven month process. Very smooth and informative.

Many thanks to the OC Sheriff.

                -Andy

Can someone show me what the conditional approval email looks like? I have one saying to go get my live scan back in Sept.

Live scan is done and when I called results were in Dec. 23rd. I just finished up training, so I was wondering if I should wait for the conditional approval or just send in my training.

                  TimeLine:
                  Interview request: 3/10/16
                  Initial interview: 7/22/16

                  Live Scan received: 12/23/16
                  Training: 12/27/16
                  Conditional Approval: ...

If at all possible would anyone be able to critique my GC for my application. Feel free to say whatever or add whatever!

                      Good cause:
"With my hobbies of camping/hiking and dirt bike riding I tend to regularly travel to remote places with no readily available emergency services. I need to carry a handgun for the fear of bodily harm or death from an attack of any sort (bear, cougar, wild dogs and/or human attack) so I can protect my family, friends and myself on our adventures. I will not harm any animals (especially endangered animals) unless life threatening circumstances arise."

I'd say leave the last part about harming animals out as that's already a given. I also think you should come up with a couple of more reasons like selling stuff on Craigslist or bike riding on SART with your family and you're worried about all the bums and tent city. Catch my drift? Also take some time to go take a few pictures to back up your claim.

Ya, I don't think that's quite gonna do it. You posted on the GCS thread, right? Grantar2 has been of great assistance to a number of calguns applicants.

GCS is not for optional activities - it's for being forced into situations that pose a threat of grave bodily injury or death.

Several questionnaire type points have been posted here - did you complete that? At least for yourself?

The problem here is that you are voluntarily committing to an act that could be dangerous. I totally get that it is not an unreasonable hobby but this is what the OC CCW office hears when they read this.

"Me and my family have taken a liking to taping $100 bills to our clothes and running through tent city.
Due to the inherent danger of our new found past time I feel it necessary to be armed should me or my loved ones ever get attacked."

Is there anything work related that would cause you to carry? Do you deal with total strangers on a regular basis in an environment that is not openly public and visible by a lot of people?

For some reason, if your reason is job related it has a high % of success.

                              I could potential add this:

"As a CAD Drafter at an architect firm I will occasionally go to job sites and inspect our projects. The projects could be at all different stages; just framing, framing with drywall, or almost complete. I could occasionally encounter some hostile squatters. Most of the projects are located in new home tracks yet to be developed which could be very isolated at time."

I have no picture evidence and wont be going to a job site before my appointment

Just passing by, but at this point, you appear to be just making stuff up on a public forum.

"Hostile squatters" at an active residential job site? That will be a tough sell. (Squatters don't usually hang at active job sites.) However, you can avoid such conflicts by going to the sites during the day when the work crews are there. Problem solved.

During your interview, a seasoned detective will be asking you questions, and those folks have a strong BS meter running. May I suggest that you stop the public "honing" and get hold of Grantar through PM and hammer something out that is believable and you can sell?

                                Good luck to you.
